Home heating oil prices
We just got a delivery of oil at $4.44/gal! We are on a contract but not locked into a rate. I was under the impression that the price of oil was going down and I think it's lower this month than it was last month - yet last month, I was told the price per gallon was $3.79.
Does $4.44 sound high or am I just extra sensitive given that we also need work on the boiler and I overspent on Christmas again this year?

Re: Home heating oil prices
I paid $4.19 last week. I was excited to see I only needed 93 gallons as my last fill up was in September. But once I saw the $400 I wasn't so excited anymore!

Ugh - $4.19 is not what I was hoping for I guess the rate isn't *that* far off. Thanks!

Re: Home heating oil prices
$4.44 is EXORBITANT
I locked in at $3.89. Yes, all the "reports" and "they" were saying gas was probably going down. But witht he fiscal cliff looming, well who knows. Plus, we are always one natural disaster away from oil/gas being high.
If you are NOT locked in they will charge you whatever the retail price is at the time of delivery. That can be ANY price if you are not locked in.
ETA. The retail price probably WAS $3.89...LAST month. This month its $4.44.
Sorry its so high.

Re: Home heating oil prices
Slomins is advertising $3.54 lock for a year or $3.69 with a free service contract.
I got Petro to match this deal on my renewal. $3.69 for the year with a free service contract. Took a lot of negotiating. Basically told Petro I was canceling unless they matched the deal. They came down from $4.19.

Re: Home heating oil prices
I guess I should have locked in at a lower rate. Over the summer they were offering a locked in rate of $3.79, which I also thought was high at the time. I'm just so surprised at the retail rate now. It is definitely time to start looking for a new oil company.

Re: Home heating oil prices
I never lock in.
I just shop around when I need a delivery.
I got a delivery in October and paid $3.60.
Check codfuel.com to see a list of prices.

We're doing the same. We have saved 400 dollars this year, and that is with the price of oil higher than last year.
It's all a gamble.

If you are going to have a contract always lock in a rate.
Now because you have a contract you can't shop around.
Remember its winter. Rates are always higher. And I thought 3.79 was high when we locked in but for the past 2 years it really hasn't been lower than that.
