Home School

Can you please give me your input on this?
My 17yr old DD is asking me for this. She was a senior at Cardoza HS and was advise to pull her out and enroll her in an Academic School in Flushing. She claims she can't concentrate because of friends. Out of the whole school year she probably only went to school 50 days. I never got any calls from school and only reason I found out she was cutting was because I would attend parents/teacher conference. We spoke to her but nothing worked and I'm a FTWM so I can't hold her hand and walk her to school.

She's a follower and does what her friends tell her to do. I don't know if home school will make it better but I'm willing to try anything to at least help her get her HS diploma with the miracle that she will grow up and go to college.

Any advice?

Re: Home School

If you're a ftwm, will you be able to home school her? Or would someone else do it?

I would find out from the school how it would affect her diploma.

There are tons of home school resources out there. I don't know a lot about the topic but I think the main thing, as I said above, is that she meets the requirements set by the state so she can get the diploma and enroll in college.

I do freelance work for a non-profit that offers free online courses. Until recently they only had college classes but they are branching out to k-12, targeted at homeschoolers and kids in developing countries. All the content, including all the readings/texts, is free. I am not sure if the 11-12th grade courses are up yet; I'm working on a middle school course. Saylor Foundation

What you are referring to is home instruction and this is only provided when a student has medical reason they are unable to attend school for 6 or more weeks.

We've had a couple of kids who use anxiety as a reason for home instruction.

Yes this is possible I have as well but I am unsure as to whether (depending on the district) they will provide this indefintly. Perhaps they would provide it while you worked with a doctor to properly treat and medicate anxiety issue. Also a parent needs to be present during the hours the teacher is instructing in your home to supervise.
