Home warranty company recommendations
Looking to get home warranty for a 14 year old house with all original appliances and original hvac. When there is an issue I am wondering if the warranty company will say its normal wear and tear and not fix or replace when appliances are that old. Is it even worth getting warranty for appliances that old? TIA!

Re: Home warranty company recommendations
You really have to read carefully with home warranties. There are usually different levels/plans with different coverage, but there are a lot of exclusions.
We offer home warranty plans as an option a seller can add on when they list their home (and we go through American Home Shield). But for most people, it doesn't make sense. Sometimes if a seller has a hard to sell house that needs work, it's worth it for them to purchase a basic home warranty (which is usually around $500, but just includes bare bones stuff) and they can pay for it from their proceeds at closing. It transfers to the buyer and the buyer gets some peace of mind, so it's worth it as a selling tool.
If your home is only 14 years old, I wouldn't worry about it. The warranty will likely cost you more than the cost of replacing appliances, and many plans exclude appliances.
14 year old heating system is relatively young. Most heating systems will last 30-40 years, and most CAC systems are good for at least 20 years.
If you were my client, I would advise against the purchase of a warranty plan, just my two cents. I don't think the value is there.
