Re: homes for auctions or forclosure
Are you looking for homes for auction or foreclosure or information about the process?
You can find a listing in the legal notices section of the local paper. They are required to announce them a few weeks before the auction takes place. Just make sure you call beforehand because many times the owner refinances.
DH and I were looking into one for awhile but, we ended up finding another house and then the next day we learned that the owner refinanced.
It can be a great deal but, there also can be a lot of headaches! A lot of times the person being foreclosed on does a lot of damage to the house before they leave. You also may have to go through the process of evicting occupants.

Re: homes for auctions or forclosure
there are legit foreclosure lists you can pay for & you get a daily or weekly email. I get a few lists a week & most of the houses that don't get "saved" at the last minute are in REALLY bad neighborhoods or the foreclosure amount is WAY above market value which is why the people couldn't save the house. You can't get a mortgage 99% of the time & you need 10 or 20% cash deposit on the courthouse steps.

Are you trying to do this on LI? As Kelly said there are lists you can subscribe to. However they require large amounts of upfront capital, you can't see the inside of the property beforehand, and often time banks or real estate developers will snatch them up because they can turn them over with a smaller margin.

the only one I use that is "public" is this one, I don't think He'll charge you a fee. My other lists are wholesalers only. http://www.glensold.com/

Re: homes for auctions or forclosure
the list I posted has some city stuff. I don't deal in the city so I don't have much other info. The other thing you can try is the government website, see if they are having any auctions, often properties get seized for taxes or whatever.

Here's a link for auctions in Queens. I'm not sure if the other borough have similar sites.
