Honest opinions needed re: my resume
so I got let go last week from my job of only 10 weeks. this company totally USED me for my skills and knowledge. when the project was 99% complete, they let me go.
I updated my resume on Monday and added this last job as a "temporary assignment". I've been sending out my resume a lot this week. I learned some new skills at this last job and really want them on my resume. also, if a potential employer runs a background check on me and this last job is not there, and they find out I worked there, that might cost me a future job b/c I lied.
this totally sucks! I feel like I am d@mned if I do, d@mned if I don't
your opinions would be appreciated!!

Re: Honest opinions needed re: my resume
i feel your pain!
the background check my employer did was only to see if i had a criminal record, etc. are u sure they can do a formal check to see where you were employed?
if i were you, i'd change your resume back to the original title and if asked, say you were 'let go.' If you were fired, this answer doesn't sound like that but its also not a lie.
when u get a new job, then i'd take off the place that just let you go.

they let me go when the project I just worked my azz off on was 99% completed.
I am not sure what to do! on the one hand it looks bad that I only had this job for 2.5 months, but on the other hand, I don't want to lie about it. and also, at least it shows I worked recently.
I hate this crap!

Re: Honest opinions needed re: my resume
I'm sorry this happened to you.
What did the company agree to say about you? Can you change the position to "Consultant" or "Independent Contractor"? Will the company agree to that since you were only there for 2.5 months. Did they give you a reason why you were let go?
I think you have to call HR and find out what they will say about you and then you can move forward. A lot of times companies will only verify title and dates employed because they are afraid of getting sued.

Re: Honest opinions needed re: my resume
Most companies don't do "real" background checks unless they are regulated ie financial companies.
I was in a similar situation where I was hired on a project basis for 6 months. I list that on my resume as "consulting."
BTW: That was really lame what they did to you

Re: Honest opinions needed re: my resume
I say keep it as a temporary assignment. If you are uncomfortable talk to your old boss and ask them if you were let go because no work was available after your project was finished.

Me too Honestly, I would use consultant (it's a common term used for a project position) I would use marketing consultant or project consultant and write in the description that it was a temporary position based on the term of a project. HTH and good luck!!! What sector is your background in? I know lots of people in agencies.
