hormones + major dietary restriction + mom = problems

I'll admit it... I'm a bit miffed right now.
sorry, this is long.....

Mom is having a small shower for me (about 11 people?)... I appreciate it very much.... BUT, I have 2 super-close friends that were vegetarians for years and now will occassionally eat some chicken, but that's it. So I asked mom to kindly provide some chicken for them and her response was 'if they can eat chicken, then they can eat the cold beef and pork platter' (what ever that means Chat Icon apparently, they're NOT coldcuts.....)

I asked her to at least buy some chicken breasts and marinate / grill them. She didn't want to do it.

then she said 'they can eat the caesars salad'. then I mentioned 'uhhh, you realize I cannot eat carbs and also can't have caesar's salad, right?' (raw eggs and anchovies in dressing... not fish allergy friendly!) She denied that eggs and anchovies are in the dressing Chat Icon

'Why can't you eat the salad? you're annoying me right now. just eat what I'm serving' Chat Icon

What the #ell? isn't this party supposed to be in my honor anyway? She's serving cake, caesar's salad, booze, soda (can't eat/ drink any of that!), and refuses to divulge what else is on the menu... She told me to basically suck it up and not eat anything if I'm so 'hormonal'.

That would all be fine and good except I'm 8.5 months pregnant and need to eat constantly.

Finally, I got annoyed enough and said 'there is something there that I can eat, right?

I swear I'll pack a lunch and drink for my own shower.
vent over.......

OMG I feel so bad mom's being that way!!!!Chat Icon
Is there anyone else going who can "help" - i.e. bring the chicken or something appropriate for you and your friends to eat?
Or can DH be the 'good guy' and order a tray for the "special diet" people?

I don't know it seems like YOUR dietary needs are priority #1 right now and seriously, if you HAVE to bring your own food, that's what I would do. Mom's just being obstinant, and you have to do what's best for you and scone!!!!

It just makes me Chat Icon when family don't do the right thing by the preggo!!!!

Re: hormones + major dietary restriction + mom = problems

thanks Chat Icon

mom IS obstinant.... with everything. It's her major personality trait, unfortunately... sigh.

I just got off of the phone with DH, and he said I should definitely pack food. good idea, I'll also bring the chicken.....

Sad thing is that I just spent the entire afternoon wondering why I feel so run down after lunch every day (I think it's becuase I don't drink enough while at work) and told Mom about this scenario before this food conversation started.

you'd THINK she'd be a bit more receptive to my worries Chat Icon Alas, her pride remains priority #1 Chat Icon

ugh i am sorry... i totally agree with you on this one, with a small, intimate shower like that your mom should be more accommodating for you and your friends. i am sorry she's is being so tough Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
