HORRIBLE!!!! cio
I don't know hat I was thinking....Sidney is 13 1/2 weeks old and because she has been waking up every 1 and 1/2 at night for the past almost 3 weeks DH and I decided to CIO tonight. We had a lack of communication on this and she started crying before we decided how long we would let her cry. Well before we knew it she cried for 1 hr straight then soothed herself for 10 minutes then went on to full on crying again. After 20 minutes of that she calmed down again and DH went in to her.(he wanted to reinforce the fact that she stopped crying) Well of course she started crying when she saw him so he picked her up. After crying another 5 minutes she passed out on his shoulder. HORRIBLE! We should never had #1 tried this so young, #2 we should have checked and consoled for short intervals. And #3 since we got this far DH shouldn't have picked her up.
I am soooooo sleep deprived that I actually thought this was a good idea to just let her cry and cry and cry. I am so sad

Re: HORRIBLE!!!! cio
Dont beat yourself up about it, its very hard to be sleep deprived. I had to do it with my daughter and the pediatrician said the ideal age is around 5 months. At 13 1/2 weeks, her nervous system might not be capable of making the change. They're all so different so what works for one doesnt always work for the other. Hang in there!!

Re: HORRIBLE!!!! cio
From what my pediatrician said was not to let a baby CIO under the age of 6 months??? My son had me up every 1.5 also for the first 10 months. So I know how you feel. Plus I was working FT since he was 6 weeks old. We tried the CIO when he was 8 months old... didn't work, and it broke my heart. We did it again around 10 months old and it worked. He cried the first 20 min., then it was 2 min. less every night. I just think that 13 weeks old might be too young! Good luck though!

Re: HORRIBLE!!!! cio
If it makes you feel any better, my dr. said to let Nick cio at 8 weeks!!! But I could never do that. Luckily he slept through the night at 3 1/2 months... Don't feel badly - just do whatever you are comfortable with have a game plan!

Re: HORRIBLE!!!! cio
I barely slept at all last night feeling so mean. But Sidney did put herself back to sleep at 3am which she hasn't done in over a month. So she got up at 1:30, 5, and 8 to start the day. So she did pretty well. But of course like I said I didn't get much sleep. (my own fault)
She was all smiles this morning so that made me feel a little better

Re: HORRIBLE!!!! cio
That sounds like what happened to us.... Mallory was up every 1 1/2 to 2 hrs until she was about 6-7 months and after deciding that we were going to lose our minds from sleep deprivation, we let her cry... oh it was horrible, I cried and got snippy with my DH...the consoling at intervals doesn't work, because she just got more upset and eventually my DH went in and picked her up and she passed out.... it was a terrible experience the first night.... when I talked to my Dr. she said that CIO shouldn't really be used at night because they are already tired and it just makes them upset, it should be tried at nap times during the day when they are not OVERtired.....which did work, Mallory is finally sleeping 12 hrs at night and taking 2 naps during the day! don't beat yourself up, it's not easy when you are sleep deprived and Sidney will love you no matter what they forgive and forget very quickly!

Re: HORRIBLE!!!! cio
I was blessed that I didn't really have to do this, but the nights I do, you have to really see when it's a heartfelt cry or what we call, "Singing Opera". We let her fuss herslef to sleep most of the time, but it depends on if there are real tears and sobs or just that long drawn out wail.
It'll get easier!

Re: HORRIBLE!!!! cio
it should be tried at nap times during the day when they are not OVERtired.....which did work
I thought about doing this but if she cries for very long then I might think that she is hungry cause she eats every 2 hrs. So she would eat, play, sleep, eat. So if it were time to sleep a long cry would run into eating time and I would feel the need to run in to feed her. How did you get around this?? Next time (which will be a looooong time from now) I would like to try during nap time.
P.S. She has cried a lot less during the day today than she normally does.
