HORRIBLE Diaper Rash

DD has a HORRIBLE diaper rash and I don't know what to do. I can't call the dr. because they are closed today Chat Icon She is screaming bloody murder any time I try to wipe her Chat Icon Chat Icon She's getting her 4 front teeth in so I think it may have something to do with it.

I've been putting vasaline on it because that's about the only thing that helps...none of the creams seem to work. I put her in her crib without a diaper, hoping that the air will help a little but shes still crying/whining.

Is there anything is I can do? I feel horrible!! Chat Icon

When my dd had her worst rash ever (red, raised, very painful for her) my doctor told me to mix equal parts Maalox, Desitin, hydrocortisone and Lotrimin and put it on her after every change. Odd combo of stuff, but it worked- I made a big batch with 1 TBSP of each and it lasted a while. I was also told to let her go diaperless for 10 minutes so that she'd really dry.

Don't know if this sounds like what your DC had, but this mixture really helped.

Re: HORRIBLE Diaper Rash

I like regular A&D Ointment. It works for DD and isn't totally messy

DD has had several bad rashes (usually because of antibotics) but don't use wipes. They burn the rash. Just wet a paper towel with water.

Also agree with MrsProfessors mixture.

When you wipe her, rinse the wipes in water first! It helps remove the alcohol (or whatever it is they use in wipes).
OR don't use wipes, just wet some paper towels. This will at least help ease the burn she may be feelingChat Icon

Have you tried Butt Paste or Triple Paste?

That combo totally sounds like it would work!!!! All calming stuff!!!!! I have to save this "recipe."

I think a lot of people use Vaseline on top of something else. Maybe try that.

And let her tushy soak in the tub a little first.

Re: HORRIBLE Diaper Rash

Regular A & D first and then Desitin or triple paste after that. My DD would get rashes so badly her skin would be raw and fall off when we wiped her. It was terrible. Our Peds Dermitologist suggested this. Worked like a charm. He said if that didn't work he would then be giving us a perscription for something else.

DS never had any hint of diaper rash for his first year and it has been so bad these past two weeks. I think it has to be related to the heat.

Balmex is helping, but not eliminating the problemChat Icon

Re: HORRIBLE Diaper Rash

to be honest i don't know if i would put vasaline on it. it is such a great barrier, that if she has moisture/rash on her bum it might like lock it in, KWIM?

I would actually make sure she air dries for like maybe 15 minutes every few hours. Then something good like Butt Paste or Triple Paste when she is wearing a diaper.

Since it is nice out, can you go outsie to let her air out with no diaper on, this way you don't have to worry about her peeing in the house? Chat Icon

Also I'd call her pediatrician by tomorrow if it isn't better because it could be a yeast infection, in which case she'd need some prescription nystatin cream. My DD got that a lot when she was younger.

Re: HORRIBLE Diaper Rash

when my dd usually gets diaper rashes real bad because of her teeth..I dont use wipes at all it makes it worse and cause severe pain to them..I usually put her butt right in the tub every time I need to change her then pat her dry with a towel and let her air out for a bit..I put cottantail(from stop and shop)creamy petroleum jelly on her butt and by the next day its usually gone..goodluck

Re: HORRIBLE Diaper Rash

My ped said to use Butt Paste and when you change diaper, try not to wipe it off, just add another layer. She said if it didn't clear up in 3 - 4 days, she would give prescription.

Good luck!

I would try Triple Paste. Ifthat doesn't seem to be working it could be a yeast infection, then Lotrimin would help.

Re: HORRIBLE Diaper Rash

Joey had a rash that was so unbelievable, it made ME cry!

He had a reaction to the Ex-Lax he was prescribed from his gastro.

His rash consisted of blisters, peeling skin and he was as red as a beet!

We tried Triple Paste, Butt Paste, Desitin, A&D, powder, no diaper...nothing worked.

Finally we were prescribed Calmoseptine (it is also sold OTC), and that's what finally did the trick!

Good luck! Chat Icon
