Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
What snacks u took or plan on taking to the hospital? All my planning was spent on packing the necessities, out of ideas on anything at this point. Would love some yummy suggestions.
btw, how big ur bag is/was? I packed a carry on suitcase initially, but ran out of space plus I wanted to take the boppy with me and DH will be staying there with me so needed to pack him too, so I ended up transferring everything into a checked suitcase size. Is that embarrassing? Would I look insane at the hospital? Will the nurses and other patients go "woah that chick is anal..."

I haven't even started thinking about this yet, but I say pack what you want - who cares what the other patients think (plus you likely won't see any other patients), and I'm sure that the nurses have seen it all!
I'm not sure what snacks to bring, I would double check with the hospital's policy about outside food being brought in, some can be PITA's about it.
I am curious what others brought to wear - when I visited my BFF 2 weeks ago, she was still wearing the hospital gown the day after giving birth, but I'm sure they would let me wear my own nightgown or pj's if I wanted, right?

Re: Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
What hospital are you delivering at?
I had DS at LIJ and they had a self serve snack area. Lots of pretzels (ice cream) humus; crackers etc. I would just walk and grab things when I wanted a snack...never even thought to pack my own.
What are you packing that your bag is so big?
The boppy you won't need until after LO is born; if anything put that in the car and then have DH bring it up for you. Slippers; shoes for the shower; robe; sleep clothes; toiletries and coming home outfit for LO are all you really need. I wore the hospital underwear since you bleed so much after.
I had a carry on bag. Also pack an empty duffle (that can collapse into your bag) for all the freebies. I came home with tons of diapers; tucks; ointment; baby stuff etc. The more you carry with you the more you have to lug around between check in; delivery; recovery. And then carry home with LO as well.

I wore the hospital gown the first night. It was just easier and I didn't have to worry about messing up my own clothes. Day 2 I changed into my own PJ's and I think yoga pants.

I am planning on staying in the hospital gown for the first night too. Bringing 2 pairs of maternity leggings and a nursing tank top as well as long sleeve T.
good point on nurses who seen it all at this point LMAO

Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
I had a very small tote bag for the labor and delivery room. I put snacks in it for my DH since I could not eat. (I later ate those snacks when I got to my room). The snacks I brought: trail mix, pretzels, protein bars, bagged cereal. I also had my basic toiletries in there (toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, etc). It also had our camera and phone chargers.
I had a carry on suitcase which we left in the car with my overnight supplies.
Night 1 - I wore the hospital gown Day 2/Night 2 - I wore yoga pants and a nursing tank. I also had a robe. Day 3 - I wore another pair of yoga pants and a nursing tank to go home.
I also brought a hoodie, toiletries, hair dryer, make up. I brought two night gowns just in case I had a c-section, but didnt use them. I also had a going home outfit for DS and a blanket. I brought a boppy, but did not put it in a bag.

Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
I would do some filling stuff like granola bars, peanut butter crackers, nuts, etc. I also brought a few bottles of gator aid.
I was so glad to have what I did bc I had only eaten a piece of toast in 24 hours and when I got to my room we had to wait about 30 minutes for the cafeteria to open at midnight. I swear I could have eaten my arm during that wait! All the nurses could scrounge up for me were some graham crackers and that was not cutting it.

keep in mind that your Dr may want you on a certain diet. I ended up with a Csection and I could only have liquids for the first 24 hrs

I wasn't allowed to eat anything for over 24 hours. Then even after that, I had no real desire to eat. I never brought snacks with me to the hospital.

If you are bringing a huge suitcase to the hospital, you are overpacking.
You don't need snacks. If you're hungry, one of your visitors can always buy you something. I think we packed granola bars, but never touched them. And you are only staying in the hospital for a few days. DH stayed with me, but still went home to shower and change his clothes, so 1 change of clothes for him was more than enough.

Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
We had 2 totebags, one to come into labor and delivery with us and one to bring up to the hospital room after. You should at least split your stuff so you only bring what you need to the delivery room. For snacks, I brought a few granola bars for DH. I can't recall exactly what we brought to ldr aside from the cord blood kit, camera, and granolas.

Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
I just brought a duffle bag. I chose to wear leggings, VS nigtshirts or gownies and a nursing bra. I packed for the 4 days I'd be there. I also brought granny panties and slipper boots, but I used the disposables they give you in the hospital and non skid socks because nothing fit my big wide huge feet. I loved having my own huge towel from home and my own pillow, too. I only packed trashy magazines and personal hygiene stuff. The food at NSLIJ was so good and so plentiful that I didn't need snacks. You may want to bring your own sanitary stuff, since the kind in the hospital is so old-fashioned.

I wore my own pjs (yoga pants and t-shirt). I think I changed right after I went upstairs, unless I cleaned up in ldr. It's kind of fuzzy. Whenever they let me get up and set me up with pads. I actually didn't wear the gown for delivery either.

Re: Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
Thanks everyone for sharing ur experiences. I know for sure I didnt overpack. Just ran out of space in my smaller bag as I needed to pack my own towels and a few disposable underwear and a boppy. DH definitely will be staying with me the whole time and as we live in Westchester but delivering in the city. We want to eliminate any reason for him to have to go back and forth as one can get stuck in horrendous traffic on FDR. Plus the only ppl I would trust to get me stuff are my parents who are flying in from another country a week after my EDD. DH's family is useless basically. Good idea regarding having 2 bags, one for L&D and the other one for recovery room. Will be implementing that today.

Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
Snacks (I had chips and milanos, but my family brought so much food, I really didn't need them!), pads (if you want- the hospitals have them, but my hospital didn't have sticky ones), toiletries (travel size), pjs (or comfy clothes), magazines or a book.
The hospital will have towels and you won't be there long for multiple changes of clothes. Your DH should probably pack a bag for himself and keep it in the car with the boppy. It will be so much to carry around l&d.

Re: Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
Not planning on bringing any snacks, and will probably bring an overnight oversized bag type of thing with sweats/yoga pants for 2 days, two-three t-shirts, toiletries/make-up, undies, and go home outfit for the munchkin. Also bringing a blanket to wrap around him so DH can bring it home to our dog before we get home. Also packing our camera, charger, etc. We live fairly close to hospital, so if I forget anything, DH can go home and bring it.

Agreed...I went into labor unexpectedly 3 weeks early and went to the hospital with nothing but my purse and the clothes on my back. I was absolutely fine and didn't need a thing! DH went home and got me clothes to go home in and the baby's coming home outfit. That's it.

I agree with this You really don't need to pack snacks. I had a small tote for L&D and then after I delivered my dh got my overnight bag form the car once I moved up to the maternity ward. Once you are admitted to L&D you cannot eat. At Winthrop they have a snack cart that comes around twice a day and I know that I was encouraged to take more than one snack so I would have extras on hand.

They definitely do - they even encourage guests to take as well! DH and I were there visiting our brand new baby goddaughter 2 weeks ago and they came by with a cart - oranges, oreos, chocolate chip cookies, I don't remember what else, but there was definitely more. The woman who brought it offered to all of us.

You really don't need that much...I didn't have snacks, you will have plenty of visitors to bring you food. Plus, after labor they gave me a sandwich both times when I asked. You need toiletries, change of clothes for yourself for 2-3 days, underwear, robe, slippers, and an outfit to take the baby home (and blanket etc depending on weather). Also camera, charger, phone charger. I never even used my laptop or read magazines or anything, the time goes so fast and there are visitors most of the time anyway.
