Re: Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
I sent my husband out to get snacks a couple of days before my due date and he came back with: Twizzlers, Cinnabuns, Pringles, Jolly Ranchers, Oreos, Mrs. Fields Choc Chip cookies, granola bars, Chips Ahoy Birthday Frosting filled cookies, beef jerky (yuck!), juice boxes, small cans of ginger ale, and tons more that I can't even remember right now. He's nuts. I was like, we are not taking 6 shopping bags of junk food to the hospital!

Thanks everyone for sharing ur experiences. I know for sure I didnt overpack. Just ran out of space in my smaller bag as I needed to pack my own towels and a few disposable underwear and a boppy. DH definitely will be staying with me the whole time and as we live in Westchester but delivering in the city. We want to eliminate any reason for him to have to go back and forth as one can get stuck in horrendous traffic on FDR. Plus the only ppl I would trust to get me stuff are my parents who are flying in from another country a week after my EDD. DH's family is useless basically. Good idea regarding having 2 bags, one for L&D and the other one for recovery room. Will be implementing that today.
If you're packing towels and disposable underwear, you're overpacking. You will get both from the hospital. And plenty of extra stuff to take home, too.
I delivered in the city, too, and we live outside of Manhattan so DH was commuting back and forth, too. He just went during the day so he wasn't traveling during rush hour. Trust me, you will want time to yourself, too.
I went into labor early and unexpectedly and the only thing I really needed anyone to bring was my phone charger and a hair brush. Everything else you get from the hospital.

Bring what you think you'll need! You can always leave some things in the car like the boppy. I didn't bring that and didn't miss it at all. Not every hospital provides the same stuff. Mine did not have disposable underwear and like I posted before didn't have food available late at night when I had just gotten to my room and really needed it. Just bring some extra empty bags and bring things out to the car that you don't need like gifts and dirty clothes.

Re: Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
I don't live near the hospital I'm delivering at and my DH plans to stay with me the whole time. I am packing our own towels because I know it will make us more comfortable. My DH is also a big snack person so even if I'm not able to eat, I packed some apple sauce, fruit jello cups, and granola bars for our bags. Doesn't take up much space and if we don't eat them, then no big deal- we'll just bring it back home.
I say pack what YOU think you need. I feel like you're always going to hear contrasting stories on what you should/shouldn't bring.

keep in mind that your Dr may want you on a certain diet. I ended up with a Csection and I could only have liquids for the first 24 hrs
I wasn't allowed to eat anything for over 24 hours. Then even after that, I had no real desire to eat. I never brought snacks with me to the hospital.
New evidenced base research has changed the policy- regular diet is allowed even after c section. I just delivered end of April and was allowed to have a regular diet right after. In 2009 I was not.

I had two C-sections but I was allowed to eat whatever I wanted after 12 hrs. However, I had little desire to eat much. I ate a lot of saltines, fresh fruit salad, buttered rolls, etc. I didn't want anything greasy or unhealthy that would upset my stomach.
You can bring anything you want with into the hospital though in terms of snacks. They won't say anything, at least St. Charles didn't.
In terms of clothes, I wore the hospital gown then switched over to a comfy maternity shirt and maternity yoga pants. With my C-section incision I didn't want anything tight and conforming.

My DD was born in 2008, I had no restrictions after 12 hrs.

Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
I think snacks can be useful for DH if you have a long labor. I did not but DH still ate some dried fruit and a granola bar. My hospital only offered guests food for a fee v

I didn't bring towels when I delivered DD, but I will 100% bring them this time. The hospital towels were thin and tiny. I felt like I was trying to dry myself with a paper towel.
You can leave things in the car so that you're not schlepping tons of stuff in to the hospital. PP's suggestion of 2 bags is a good one; we did that. I sent DH to get the second bag after I delivered DD. There is no way I'd want to send my DH back and forth to the house if it can be avoided.
As for wanting time to yourself in the hospital: everyone is different. I didn't want DH to leave my side during my stay. I was super emotional and having him there was very soothing for me.

yes that is why I am taking my own towels. Plus I am very attached to my toiletries and so is DH and it literally gives me anxiety whenever I travel that I would forget something from my face creams or face soaps. (< total weirdo LOL) There is no way I will let DH go anywhere. He is so disorganized it will prob will take him other than traffic 5 million hrs to get back. And i will start freaking out. He stays ***** put LMAO.
after reading everyone's replies I am now confident more than before that I packed correctly. 8 more days till due date!!!

Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
I packed fruit cups. Dh was feeding them to me while they were stitching me up. I was starving! We also delivered in the city dh never left my side but we were only in 24 hrs. No time to shower there. I was in a nursing tank and yoga pants 30 min after delivery. Those were the same clothes I went home in. I had a duffle bag and my yoga ball. That ball made everything bearable. Could not have imagined labor before the epi without it.

Re: Hospital bag - need ideas for snacks LOL
I ate throughout my whole labor and right after. I packed Luna protein bars, Kind bars, dried apricots, Gatoraid and coconut water.
Hubz brought Chex mix, gum, some other crap food, lol.
Honestly, of all the weird stuff I overpacked, the snacks were worth it. I was in labor for a long time, so I needed it and the hospital food was gross.
