hospital bag list

I know we have a million floating around here- but I just printed out and added a pretty detailed one for a friend, and figured Id share here as well!

For Mom and Baby
>3-4 nightgowns and/or pajamas
> I would also bring sweat suites and stuff- I wore these while I had company during the day- I also wore one home... Just remember- dont expect to be wearing anything but your pregnancy clothes for the first week or 2!
>3-4 bras (nursing bras if you plan to breastfeed or nursing sports
bra's Is what I liked best!)
>6 pairs of underpants
>Robe
>Slippers
>Socks
>Toiletries: toothbrush/toothpaste, soap, shampoo/conditioner,
deodorant, lotion, brush, Blistex, scented shower gel/body spray (to
feel good after delivery)
>Scrunchies
>Pillow(for you and hubby)
>Towels
>Bfing supplies – breastpads, lanolin, boppy
>Your own pads (poise pads)
>Makeup
>Snacks (def. get your own candy stash- I got so hungry @ night)
>Magazines
>List of people and phone numbers to call- cell phone/change for the pay phone
>Camera/film
>Going home outfit for yourself
>Clothes for baby (T-shirt, socks, hat, sleeping gown)
>Going home outfit for baby
>Blanket for bringing baby home (and jacket if its cold)
>Car seat (I would make sure the snuggle me is on the car seat to keep
baby warm if its a winter delivery)

Miscellaneous items:
>Watch or small clock
>Insurance information
>Hospital pre-registration forms
>Change of clothes & toiletries for husband (Unless he plans to go
home and shower and change everyday)

Things to be used during labor:
>Small CD player & soothing music
>Focal point
>Tennis ball
>Lotion for massage
>Watch
>Hard candy to keep mouth moist
>An activity to keep busy during early labor

I would also pack a seperate EMPTY bag- the hospital cart is gonna be
packed with baby cream, diapers, formula etc... You take every freakin
thing in the cart everytime the baby comes around!!!! And hubby can
bring the things back and forth to your house...

These lists are so funny to me since the only item I used in the hospital was my toothbrush!

Re: hospital bag list

Hmm, i don't... I think I only had about 1/3 of this list with me, and ended up using ony half of that anyway.

One thing that is missing is a cell phone, or in the least a calling card. You never know when and if that phone by your bed will be hooked up and you will need to contact people.

Re: hospital bag list

This makes me think of my roommate when I gave birth to the twins...

She gave birth only a few minutes before me so we got to know each other from the recovery room on..we were basically brought into the room at the same time..allowed up at the same time...

We both were off to take a shower when my roommate discovered that she had failed to pack UNDERWEAR...Me in my delirious state offered her a pair of mine...I remember her looking at me like "NO!" when I thought to explain that they were brand new and showed her the unopened package....When we got back to the room she called her husband and asked him to bring her underwear BUT that she was OK for now because her roommate gave her a pair...I then heard her explain that they were from a brand new pack!!!!

LOL...Dont forget to pack the undies ladies..Most important

YES!!! Very valuable piece of info that I wish I had known earlier during my stay, besides, they will tell you on the last day to empty the cart otherwise they have to throw out what is in it. Those foil packs of A&D have come in handy as well as the ready to feed bottles for the first 2 weeks.

The focal point is something you concentrate on during a contraction. My friend said she used the curtians in the delivery room as hers. You can pick something that means something to you.
