Honestly, I had a C section, and while I wanted visitors, I could totally see why someone would not want them.

Re: (hospital visits) When your dc was born....
I didnt want anyone but my dh and my family. 2 of my coworkers came that first day and I have to say, while I appreciated it, all I wanted to do was rest. The second day, 2 more co workers came and I welcomed them much easier. PLus the baby was with me by then, the first day she was in nicu and thats all I cared about!

honestly i don't blame her. she will probably feel miserable and it's nice to have alone time with your new baby and your husband. with my first two boys i had a ton of visitors every day and with Spencer my visitors only stayed maybe an hour. it was soooo nice!

I actually liked the visiting hours for St.Charles- thought it was kind of limited, but nice

I could not have lived without my family there! Hell, they came into recovery to see me I guess some people are more private, though.

Re: (hospital visits) When your dc was born....
Maybe she wants it just about her DH, baby and herself?
I had a c/s and DD was born at 9:20am--that was early enough so that by visiting hours I was cool with company although I felt like complete and utter crap!
ETA...I've personally never known anyone to make that request. Hey, but to each her own.

Re: (hospital visits) When your dc was born....
Prior to my c-sect. I told everyone to come visit me-
I got really sick after my surgery and was in recovery forever- when I finally got into my room after 5 hrs. (5hrs of not seeing my baby mind you) I finally got a room- and had a whole slew of visitors the 1st night...
I remember the nurse bringing me Ryan and holding him for not even 5 min- before my MIL took him and started passing him around...
I was so out of it though it didnt even bother me- I remembering wishing they would all go home so I could rest...
My Dr warned me- no visitors the 1st day- but I didnt listen...
So yes- if I could do it all over again- I would say no visitors the 1st day- unless of course I was feeling better later on that night- and at that point I would give a call..!
ETA- Stony Brook has no visiting hours SOOOO- people were there all day and night- w/ baby in the room and all

Re: (hospital visits) When your dc was born....
I remember having visitors and I barely kept it together till they left. I was in so much pain with both my c/s because of gas buildup. Absolutely the worst pain I ever had in my life...horrible! It wasnt the first day though... but nonetheless, if I read this after my first child, I wouldnt realized how someone wouldnt want visitors (he was a really great vbirth) but after my other 2 (c/s) I can see it.

With Sam all I wanted was visitors . When I had Sara I knew better and I didnt want anyone the first day. Actually I take that back, I wanted my DH, my son and my parents. Others were allowed the following day
I will add though I would never stop anyone from coming i am just glad they didnt come.

Re: (hospital visits) When your dc was born....
I knew ahead of time that I didn't want anyone except my immediate family. (that's 4 people) A girl I work with had 14 people come and see her the first night. She said it was horrible.
I usually don't visit anyone unless they are very close to me. I feel like I am intruding. Even then, I would rather wait until they are home and bring them a full dinner one night.

I begged and pleaded for people NOT to see me in the hospital. A million visitors came anyway. Not cool.

Didn't have a c-section but both times I was fine for visitors on the first night (and I had been up since the wee hours). To each his own...

Re: (hospital visits) When your dc was born....
I can see it. When I had my second, although not a c/s (VBAC), I just wanted some peace. My parents and DH's parents came to see me, but other than that, I did not call any friends or relatives to come see me. I just wanted to be alone with my new daughter and my DH.

Re: (hospital visits) When your dc was born....
I loved having visitors. The time for visiting hours is strict at Winthrop and it is only for a few hours. I loved showing off my gorgeous new son. I however, had a few unexpected visitors at non-visiting hour times while I was breastfeeding. I didn't appreciate that!

Re: (hospital visits) When your dc was born....
i did not want visitors at all. after being up for over 48 hours, being in labor for 18 hours, i was exhausted, in pain, overwhelmed & emotional. the visitors were in my room before i was. that really bothered me. and the next day i kind of wanted to rest a little, still in pain, and had a bunch of people in the room. it made it really difficult when i had to try and breastfeed and i felt bad kicking them out and also when they had to change my bed, it was really embarrasing bc of all the blood there and then having to go to the bathroom to clean up and carrying around my cathedar bag while my butt was hanging out.

I agree. I wanted my family there (and they were) but it ended up being SOOO overwhelming, I was exhausted and they wouldn't leave and the next day it was a revolving door, I hardly got any rest and that did not help my mental state at all. Next time there will be limited visiting hours. (If there is a next time.................)

This was my experience as well. While I appreciated the visitors, due to having an IV, it couldn't take a shower so it had been over 48 hours since I showered, I was exhausted and breastfeeding. So I had people in and out of my room all day and night, while being smelly and my boobs hanging out. I would have appreciated some time to myself.

Re: (hospital visits) When your dc was born....
I guess I am a little different as I loved having all the visitors. I got to the hospital at noon on Saturday, had DS (via unplanned c-section) at 1:50am the following morning. By the time I got back from recovery, my best friend was already there. I was so glad to see her! Throughout the day and days to follow, various friends and family came as well. I am very close with my extended family though so it was good to have them all there. Also, since I had a c-section, I was in the hospital until Thursday. It was really nice to have visitors since I was getting a little lonely. DH had to work (he came to the hospital in the mornings then worked from home during the days. Came back in the evenings to have dinner with me) so it was really just me, the bay and the nurses! Many people that came by had to deal with me sleeping. Hey, I just had major surgery! They weren't there to see me anyway!!

Re: (hospital visits) When your dc was born....
I didn't really want visits while I was there from anyone but immediate family and even so towards the end I wanted to be alone (I was sad because I had to leave and baby had to stay in NICU and didn't want to entertain guests my last day). I knew I couldn't deprive my parents or DH's parents of the experience being their first grandchild but I would have loved to be alone (except for DH of course).

Re: (hospital visits) When your dc was born....
I had a section and the first day I was out of it- the only people that came was my mom, dad, DH and my boss (she's a very close friend of mine)....
mostly I was sleeping and out of it b/c of the morphine.
