Hosting Thanksgiving...what time?

Should I call it for? I'm thinking have people arrive at 3pm for drinks and apps, and the we'd eat at 4. Is that too early/late?

Re: Hosting Thanksgiving...what time?

Mine's all day!

I'm in New Jersey, my family is on the Island, so to avoid traffic they are all at my house by 10:30-11:00am. We usually sit down to eat around 2:30-3:00 so they can avoid traffic heading home as well.

Perfect for me, because by 7:00pm, everything is cleaned up and I'm relaxing!

We do apps at my mom's at noontime. Dinner at FH's aunt's around 4, then back to my mom's for dessert around 8.

Re: Hosting Thanksgiving...what time?

Thanks! Everyone is pretty local, no one has to cross any bridges or anything so I figured I'd maybe do it a little later.

Re: Hosting Thanksgiving...what time?

With my family before DH, we were at my Aunt's by 12pm, watched the first football game and ate appetizers, then ate dinner at half time, then came back to watch what was left the first football game, had dessert and then just sat around for the rest of the 2nd game.

With me, I invite my ILs and anyone else over to get there btw 1-2pm to gab and eat, and then we eat dinner around 5pm, relax after diinner, then have dessert around 7pm after dishes are all put away and table is cleared and then relax for the remaining of the evening.

Re: Hosting Thanksgiving...what time?

We usually eat at around 2 here. But that's because everyone lives really close by. No Travel time... and we are usually all starving by then and wanna save room for dessert..lmao.

But i think 3 or 4 is perfectly fine!!!!!! Chat Icon

Re: Hosting Thanksgiving...what time?

I wish we were doing 3 or 4pm. We all like to eat later but my SIL who is hosting wants it early. But this year we get our way since both my DD and niece will be nappingChat Icon She asked us over by 2:30 with dinner at 4 pm but we told her the earliest we could make it was 3:30 with dinner at 5pm.

Re: Hosting Thanksgiving...what time?

LOL i knew DHs family was nuts! when we have thanksgiving there, we have to rush to get there by 12, they eat right away, and then all just hang around doing nothing for the rest of the day... sooo anti-climactic!
when we go with my family, we usually do appetizers, etc at 3 and dinner around 4... much more normal i think...

Re: Hosting Thanksgiving...what time?

We go to my parents. My sister comes from NJ so we usually all meet at 1ish. Dinner is served by 3. And this way they can get back on the road by 6.

That's usually about the time we start but we sometimes end up eating closer to 5pm.
