hot pans out of the the oven
Is there something out there that is intended to place hot pans that come directly out of the oven? I don't want to ruin my countertops.

Yep, a trivet (otherwise known as a hot plate), or if you have a wooden cutting board - that works too.

Totally! Get wood or ceramic. I've seen iron ones as well. Not only do they save your counter, but your DR table if you need to put something hot on them.

Re: hot pans out of the the oven
In Bed Bath and Beyond.......I bought two hot plates actually made out of either stone or granite. It happened to match my countertop perfect and it has a felt bottom so it doesnt scratch the counter top.
I use them all the time....they're great. The trivets I found didnt have anything to protect from scratching my countertop so I figured they were worthless.........same with the iron ones.

Re: hot pans out of the the oven
The ones I have are not rubber but are silicone so they withstand high heat. I like them because they are easy to clean and won't break if they get dropped on the tile or wood floor.

Re: hot pans out of the the oven
I have a bunch of cork trivets from IKEA. They're really cheap so I can just toss them when they get stained and the cork doesnt scratch anything.

Re: hot pans out of the the oven
You can also purchase a heat-resistant glass piece that has rubber feet. I have one right next to the stove for hot pots because my flat surface stove doesn't cool immediately and food will continue to cook and scorch if I put the pot back on top.
