Hot water heater pilot light
We've lived here for almost 3 years and have never had a problem with the water heater, and now it has gone out 3 times in the past 2 weeks.
The first time, we were told that it was because of the high winds we had, and it can create a suction in the chimney and blow the pilot out.
Now we've been told that it has gone out because there was construction in the area (don't know where 'cause I haven't seen any) and that can create air bubbles in the gas line which can make the pilot go out. Okay, maybe once, but twice in a week?
Does anybody have any experience or knowledge about this? It just doesn't seem to make sense to me. Before living here I always had an oil burner for everything so I know nothing on this subject.

Is the hot water heater outside? Where I used to live ours was in a utility closet off the patio. It was always going out because of the wind. It's been really windy this week, so it makes sense.

Re: Hot water heater pilot light
When we used to live in an apt. they put in a new hot water heater and the pilot light kept going out but we found out that it was just a lemon. Before we found out what happened I had looked into what could cause this. A bad thermo coupler could cause this to happen.

No, it is inside in the "utility room". We've had no problems for almost 3 years and now all of a sudden I'm having trouble.
