House by the water question
Would you buy a house by the water in Lindenhurst or Babylon, knowing that they got hit by Sandy?

House by the water question
Knowing that the house was damaged/destroyed by Sandy? I am leaning towards no. I grew up on the water in Amityville and would be hesitant to move back there because of the potential risks.

Re: House by the water question
nope....I am moving back to the north shore as much as I love babylon- I can't do it
I would only want to be south of montauk and I get nervous everytime they say coastal flooding (I am still in my rental)
if the house was untouched by sandy - I would consider it

Re: House by the water question
I'm about a block and a half South of Montauk Hwy in Amity Harbor not in a true flood zone and we got hit pretty hard.
I have a basement, which I would never do again anywhere on LI because of the flooding, but in retrospect, thank goodness we did have that basement or our first floor would have been gone, as was the case with most of my neighbors.
We are staying because we've already invested a great deal of money into this house pre-Sandy and bought at the height of the market so would never get what we paid at this point.
Our plans now are to upgrade and continue to pay down our mortgage so hopefully in a decade, it will be desirable to a seller if nothing like Sandy happens again.
Either that or leave it to DS. He can then do what he wants with it. Hopefully it will bring him some kind of money.

I'm part of the mom's group on FB and they've been posting pics during recent late winter/early spring storms and the coastal flooding is still very bad in Amityville. I feel so bad for those poor families.

Re: House by the water question
im in babylon now and originally we really wanted to move on the water here or w islip - but now were moving to the north sure. I think were going to have more bad storms in the future and i just wouldnt want to risk the safety of my home or family

Re: House by the water question
Me personally no. I shudder to think how bad it would've been if we still lived in our apartment by the water, we would've lost every piece of our lives.
