House Hunting *$#@%!

I have a new appreciation and admiration for all of you who have been searching for homes for extended preiods of time. DH and I have been looking for a little over a month and we are almost ready to quit. Thus far we have put in offers on 3 houses. One we decided to back out on after we brought in a contractor who basically told us not to bother. The second house went for $50k over asking price and we offerred asking!! (I thought this was suppose to be a buyers market, lol). We are waiting to hear back on our 3rd offer. It is a small home in a great area of NJ. It need a lot of work, but in the end I think it will be worth it if they come down to a normal price (I say normal because the current asking price makes me thing they are on drugs and it has been on the market since last September).

Please keep your fingers crossed for us. I really don't know how long we can drag back and forth to NJ looking for houses before we give call it a quits and stay in our current apartment!

I live in NJ!

Yes househunting is tough, but hang in there it's all worth it. Actually you are in a pretty decent market compared to a few years ago.

Your house is out there!

Funny story...Back in 2004 my husband and I saw a house we loved and made an offer on it but it was not accepted. Today we are grateful that we didn't get the house because there was open land near the house that was supposed to be protected. The town sold the open land and they are building a CVS or Walgreens or shopping center so we are happy we didn't get that house. All this to say that things happen for a reason although it might take us awhile to see it.

We did find a great house a few weeks later that is so much better than the house mentioned above.

Hope this helps!

I know how you feel. DH and I started looking at the end of October and didn't find our house until mid-December.

It's heart wrenching and exhausting.

You'll get through it and all the searches you went on will so be worth it when you find your dream home!

Thank you for sharing this story. I totally agree that things happen for a reason and that there is the perfect house out there for us. It's just hard because we aren't totally familiar with NJ and as we learn more and more we are also learning that not all real estate agents are in it for the right reasons etc. (I am trying to be nice here!)
which can be really frustrating.

Again thanks for your support!

Re: House Hunting *$#@%!

YES yes it does!!! We started going to open houses last August and then started seriously looking in November, have had a deal fall through, and made multiple offers.
You just gotta stick with it and believe that everything happens for a reason!!

Good luck!

Yes it is frustrating, though speaking as someone on both sides of the fence, I think selling is far worse right now.

Good luck--it took DH and I quite some time to find the house we liked, and this was our second bid. The first fell through.

Re: House Hunting *$#@%!

Update: Apparently house #3 is not meant to be ours either. The house house been on the marketing since September, is completely empty, and needs to be totally gutted. The same exact house, down the block, closed a month ago for less then they are asking and that house was completely renovated with at gourmet kitchen and everything. Yet these people are holding out for almost a full asking price offer and their broker has advised them to hold off on accepting because we are entering the spring market. I think these people need a reality check.

The search continues Chat Icon Chat Icon
