House Warming Party!!!
so, I have pretty much decided that I'd like to throw a house warming party on April 18, 2009.
how far in advance do you think I should send out the invites?
and is there a proper/polite way to say we don't really want gifts (unless it's booze )
TIA
ETA: I am lame. I used the wrong form of "you're" in the poll choices and I can't edit that. *le sigh*

Re: House Warming Party!!!
I voted wrong - I voted 2 weeks and I meant 4. We gave about 4 weeks notice and sent out invites.
We did an open house though - No RSVP.

Re: House Warming Party!!!
I would say 4 weeks. I would also just say on the invites, "No gifts Please. Please just bring what you drink"

Re: House Warming Party!!!
We asked for no gifts too.
I put "No gifts Please, Your presence is your present"
Some people did bring small gifts though.

Re: House Warming Party!!!
My friends/family all have insane schedules, which I'm sure MOST people do - so I'd go for maybe 6 weeks notcie ? ........
Whenever I get an invitation that specifically says 'no gift' I bring booze ..... I can't show up to someone's home with NOTHING, so I bring alcohol

I say you post flyers all over town. That way you get a good mix of people.

Re: House Warming Party!!!
We didn't have a house warming - we just had people over for super bowl as our first party.
I voted 2 weeks b/c I wouldn't want people to think it was a house warming party - I'd pretty much just call my friends and say - 'we're having people over next Friday - BYOB.' So if you had an option for 1 week, that's what I would have picked.

Re: House Warming Party!!!
"Please come to our nest, and help us stock our liquor chest!"
You want them to bring booze for you to drink later on not for them to drink, right?
That's one of my favorite reasons to have a party!
we have oktoberfest almost every year and require people to bring a six pack of an assigned beer and we all taste the different ones.
it's a hit!
You could "theme" it around the liquor...

Re: House Warming Party!!!
I voted for 6wks only because Easter and spring break are considerations. I just feel like if people have more time to plan then they have the opportunity to show. I would put on the invite...No gifts please, but feel free to bring your favorite drink to celebrate with us.
