How Accurate Were Your Growth Scans?
I'm thirty weeks and two days pregnant and the Dr. told me the baby weighs about 4.2 pounds already. At this rate he expects the baby to be big...He said they gain approximately 1 pound a week in the last month and a half a pound a week during the eigth month..
That would mean I am going to have a ten pound baby!
How accurate were your scans?

Re: How Accurate Were Your Growth Scans?
With DS and the twins they were pretty accurate...at 30 weeks they guessed that DS would be approximately 10lbs..he was born at 37 weeks and weighed almost 8lbs so they were pretty right on..

Re: How Accurate Were Your Growth Scans?
3 days before I had my DS the sonogram tech told me the baby was over 9.5 pounds.... he was 8 pounds 7 oz. They can definitely be wrong... I have known many people who's estimates were way off.

Re: How Accurate Were Your Growth Scans?
I don't really believe growth sono's are accurate, however they were within a few oz's with DD.

Re: How Accurate Were Your Growth Scans?
The day before I delivered DD I had to have an amnio to check for lung maturity. They also did a measurement while at the hospital. I was told DD was almost 9 lbs. Shanti (who was with me) and I looked at each other because I clearly was not carrying that large of a baby. DD was born THE NEXT DAY at 6 lbs 3 oz.
Three pounds is a big deal when you are delivering a baby!

Re: How Accurate Were Your Growth Scans?
Not at all. Just a short 24 hours prior to giving birth they told me Josh was a whopper at 7lbs. 3oz (he was 4 weeks early). Well he was 8lbs 10oz. Im not so sure he gained that much in a day

Re: How Accurate Were Your Growth Scans?
Mine were accurate. BOth mine were in the 5 range at 32 weeks and born at 3 weeks at just over 7lbs. However - when I said 5lbs at 32 weeks sounded big my doctor said it was totally normal and average. So 4lbs at 30 weeks doesn't sound too bad to me but what do I know.

Re: How Accurate Were Your Growth Scans?
Mine was accurate. I had one at 35 weeks and DS was weighing in at 4lbs, 2oz. He was born 4 weeks later at 6lbs, 11oz.
I believe they say that they say they can be +/- a pound or so.

Re: How Accurate Were Your Growth Scans?
I don't think mine was accurate but I can't say for sure. At about 31 or 32 weeks I was told he was 4lbs 3oz. He was born at 36 weeks and weighed only 4lbs 12oz. They sent my placenta to pathology and found out I had blood clots, which stunted the baby's growth. We don't know when the clots formed but he should have been about 5 and a half lbs based on my earlier measurements. We don't know if the measurements were off or the clots had a big effect.

Re: How Accurate Were Your Growth Scans?
DW had a routine sono that just happened to be a few hours before her water broke. DS apparently lost about 2 lbs within 12 hours, according to the sono, and his actual birth weight.....
DD was off, too, but not quite that much, but still enough to be significant.

Re: How Accurate Were Your Growth Scans?
They always told me I was measuring small and I'd probably have a 6 pounder. I had an 8 pounder...

Re: How Accurate Were Your Growth Scans?
With DS they were accurate. With DD that was another story. I was measuring 2 weeks behind my due date, my sono's measured her on the smaller side. and even put her in the 46th percentile at 37 weeks. The dr. felt that she would be the most 7lbs. Well she was 8lbs 13oz. We were all shocked.
