Re: How acurate are sonos for weight?
they can be pretty inaccurate - my SIL was induced when they thought the baby was over 9lbs, and she was born only 7'8
I think they estimate the error to be +/- 1 lb

Re: How acurate are sonos for weight?
Last year the day before I had my daughter they estimated her at 8 lbs, 9 oz - she was born not even 24 hours later at 8 pounds, 12 ounces.
I had a sono on Monday and right now they say my son is 7 and a half pounds.....I'm hoping to go into labor within the next few days so we'll see!!!!!!

The same exact thing happened to my SIL....they said the baby was about 9lbs and he was born (via c-section due to induction) at 7lbs 11oz.
I was treated for early labor and they had told me at 35weeks that he was 5lbs 6oz......36weeks they said 5lbs 13oz and he was born at 39.5 weeks at 6lbs 11oz.....so their estimates were definately wrong.

Re: How acurate are sonos for weight?
I was told by my ob/gyn that they measure the length of the femur, the entire length of the baby & width to come up with the weight - so it's pretty inaccurate.
For Joseph on Monday I was told he was about 4lbs, by Wednesday he was born at 6lbs 7oz.

Re: How acurate are sonos for weight?
I think it depends on the sophistication of the equpiment as well as the expertise of the technician. In my case I was getting sonso weekly because I had Gestational Diabetes. On MOnday they estimated her to be 10lbs 2 oz and she was born on Thursday and was 9lbs 10 oz.
They measure the length of the femur bone as well as the c ircumference of the head and belly, but as the baby gets bigger and is more squished it's harder to measure and also bigger babies have more fat on thier bellies and that makes it harder to see a definate line of where the belly ends.

Re: How acurate are sonos for weight?
They told me my son would be no bigger than 8-6 from the results of my sono.. He was born 10-5..
My girlfriend was induced with her twins, and they were born at 5 and 6 pounds instead of 8 and 9...

Re: How acurate are sonos for weight?
+ or - 1lb
My son was measuring at 6lbs 8oz the morning before I delievered him, his was 7lb 1oz. On the other hand my friend was told that her daughter was 9lbs, she weighed 7lbs 10oz. Go figure!

Re: How acurate are sonos for weight?
They're terribly inaccurate. Two days before I delivered I was given a sono and the doctor estimated that Alex weighed over 8lbs. Four days later I delivered her and she was a whopping 6lbs

Re: How acurate are sonos for weight?
They always say that a sono weight could be off about 1 or 2 pounds either way

Re: How acurate are sonos for weight?
They were right on accurate with the weight estimates for my son Andrew. At my 36 week appointment, they estimated 8.5 lbs. He was born at 37w3d at 9 lbs. 7 oz!

Re: How acurate are sonos for weight?
For me, all of mine were very accurate. For my SIl the day of her inducement, they were saying the baby was measuring over 10lbs and she had a under 9lb baby girl. All along she measured big (the dr said she was an enormous baby) and in the end she was about 8.5 lbs.

Re: How acurate are sonos for weight?
They can be off plus/minus a pound or so in either direction. Right now at 36 weeks, my boy is measuring 6lbs 2 oz.... so i guess we shall see!!
