How and when did you introduce texture aside from baby food.
Luka is 7 months and has been on solids for 3.5 months now. I tried mashing up an avacado last week and he gagged. Then today I made chicken soup since my SIL made chicken soup this past weekend and she gave Luka some broth and he really liked it so I made it and over cooked some pastina and he gagged on 5 stars. Then I pureed some chicken breast and carrots (from the soup) and he gagged on that. I was really surprised with the chicken and carrots because when I made his cereal I make it thick (I give him 3 scoops of cereal, I use the scooper from the dry formula to 2 oz of milk). How should I go about introducing it? I was thinking about cutting up some of those Puffs because I think they disolve in the mouth but not sure if that would work. Do you think he is still to young?

I found that they are ready for texture when THEY want to no matter how much we try. Ryan is 9 months and for about a month now he has been having foods with texture... pastina, mashed potatoes, pureed meats, mac and cheese, etc. I tried MANY times with the puffs and the other foods mentioned above and one day he just took to them.

Antonio had a hard time with chicken ...it's a wierd texture for babies even when it is ground up.
I started with cut up puff. Iwould give him a couple a day. The cereal dissolves so easily that it really has not texture at all. After puffs I started giving his little pieces of cheese and really mushy peaches and plums cut up small.
He gagged a lot but it took him about a month to get used to it.
He still gags with white pieces of chicken or meat.

Jacob gagged on EVERYTHING i tried to give him up until 10 months old. Now he can eat puffs, and table food without gagging. Some babies are just very sensitive to the different textures and dont like it. Of course, my Jacob was one of them!!!

Re: How and when did you introduce texture aside from baby food.
I am a big believer that in order for babies to learn how to eat and to eat textures they HAVE to gag and splutter a bit!! If you get scared when they gag and continue to give them food with no lumps and bumps, it will take them longer to get used to texture, and I think, making a rod for your own back!
I would carry on with giving him a lilttle bit of pasta everyday, if he throws up, he throws up, but at least you know that his gag reflex works! And just keep trying, if you give up it will take longer to get him onto textures!

Re: How and when did you introduce texture aside from baby food.
DD is 8 months and I have been giving her puffs and some chicken, pasta or anything else in small bits for a while now. I recently started giving her cheese and cheerios, she only eats a little bit of these things and is still eating mainly baby food.
