How are you saving for your child?

We currently have most of the baby's money in a CD and the rest in a savings account. I'm thiking about opening a 529 college fund. Does anyone have one?

I have just been picking up bonds. I know that the rate of return isn't great, but its easy for me to do. I stick baby in stroller, take 25.00 and buy a bond.

He doesn't play with a single toy that I get him, so I do this instead

I figure when they mature then we can do something with it.

Yes, we have a 529 through the state of Ohio, which is where we live. Check out each states funds and then decide. You don't have to purchase only through the NY fund. Take into consideration tax savings, and fees associated with each account type

we have the ING account.
no 529 as we are putting the most money into our IRA/retirement first- you can always get money for college- retirement, not so easy.
we also have a bunch of bonds and do the Upromise thing- even though it isn't so much $$$.

We are maxed out on our IRAs and all that. We have a 529 too which is also maxed out (in that we won't get any more tax benefits from them). I just invest through my financial planner...and I consider my business to also be savings for my DD.
