How can I get rid of smoke smell from dryer?
We just purchased our own place. We are dealing with the smoke smell on the walls and other areas by replacing rugs and painting. We just realized that the dryer is making our clothes smell like smoke. We know it's the dryer because the baby's clothes don't smell and I'm not drying them. But our clothes are awful! Any advice? TIA!!!

maybe pull the dryer away from the wall, disconnect the vent hose, and thoroughly clean / vacuum the hose? Also do your best with the lint trap. Windex whatever possible..... wet cleaners will probably get much more of that out than anything else.
Oh, and if there's any filter in the dryer that can be replaced, replace it.
wow, smoke really penetrates everything, huh?

Re: How can I get rid of smoke smell from dryer?
I know it sounds weird maybe wash the clothes in some vinegar? When we had a smoke smell in the house the fire dept told us to do this. It worked.(We had a puff back on the oil burner). We put out bowls of vinegar to get the smell out, so maybe it would work on clothes too.

we are going through the same thing! it totally stinks (literally and figuretivily) ... specially since we dont want/have to repaint the majority of the house; and cant afford to replace rugs till next year uggg this weekend im washing down all the walls with soap/water (thers liek a film on them its soooo gross)...
i didnt even think about the dryer!
man when i get there friday i'll have to check...
do you have any suggestions on removing smoke smell? we tried the vinegar thing.. i think just bringing in all our stuff will even the smell out.. i know truly the only way is to repaint/recarpet.. but the funds are jsut not there ugg

Kelly I'm assuming you mean cigarette smoke and not from a fire. I ran a search and the consensus is to clean the ducts throughout the house and the dryer ducts.
Here is a link to an article with tips for almost everything else in the house:

Re: How can I get rid of smoke smell from dryer?
We just bought a dryer cleaning kit from Bed Bath & Beyond. It seemed like it was taking forever for the clothes to dry so we bought this kit and it worked. I don't know if it will help with the smoke smell but it was only $20 and worth it to clean out all of the ducts and lint areas.

Wow, I never would have thought of it getting in there...
I would definitely try the lint cleaning kit and replace the hoses. That should do it, it just may take a few cycles...
In honor of a Kelly story:
I just e-mailed Hints from Heloise hoping I would get an e-mail within a few days. Now the reply said it may be in Good Housekeeping!!
