How can I hold out? (VENT)

I am having such problems at my job. It all seems to have started soon after they found out I was PG.

I have been getting in trouble for things that I never did, b@itched at for absolutely no reason! I wouldn't be so upset, but when you know you didn't do what they're saying, it's hard not too! Chat Icon

I sit at the front desk at work unfortunately and I've been here for 1.5 years and not once have a had a complaint about me. Well all of a sudden there have been a couple complaints, and one of them I was told went back to when other people worked in my position, which is BS. Why all of a sudden years later are you saying it's a problem and I have to take the blame for it? Chat Icon There are so many things that have been going on in this office for the past year (multiple supervisor problems with the staff), and then now this cr@p! I was told on Friday that now I have to basically get permission for me to use the bathroom! ***? This came up because Friday morning my boss called before 8:30am, I'm not suppose to be there until 8:30am and they said they called numerous times and I never answered the phone. Well, the truth is that my phone logs all the calls and he only called once and it was before 8:30am so of course it's going to go to voicemail!!! I told my supervisor that I would be happy to show them that he only called once and when he called! But no, they didn't care. How am I suppose to answer the phones if I'm not in yet? Chat Icon I've been trying to find another job for a year now, with no luck. I work in a University and I thought that it would be best to stay in the system, but now, I'm not sure. I wish I would of applied for other positions with other companies. I just thought something would of come up already. Chat Icon

I'm not going to be able to find anything until after the baby comes now since I'm almost 20 weeks. I just don't know how I'm going to be able to deal with this for 4 more months. I know everyone keeps telling me to find something while I'm on maternity leave, but if nothing has really come up in a year, how is anything going to come up in a couple of months during maternity? Chat Icon I want to leave sooo bad. I have a feeling they're trying to get rid of me because I'm PG. Now there are other people here that are PG, but they don't sit out front and greet people. I just find it weird how all of a sudden they're saying (making up) all this stuff after 1.5 years of doing a great job?

I'm sorry this is so long. I'm just really stressing out about my job. I just feel that it's unfair, and ridiculous that I have to get permission and someone to come to my desk to use the bathroom, fill my water bottle up, get a snack, etc. I'm lucky if the phone rings 5 times a day! What should I do? We can't afford for me to quit. Any ideas? Thanks for listening!

Oh, and I was told of the seriousness of these complaints right after I had my annual review which I got fully achieved on! Chat Icon

I am so sorry for what you are going through.

If I were you, I'd make a record of everything they say- and then print out your phone logs, etc.

That way, if it does come to a show down, you have the proof.

Hang strong- the universe has a way of working out- God takes care- you'll find something.

I would document document document, GET EVERYTHING they tell you in writing!! Especially if you just had your annual review and these issues weren't on there. That's bullcr@p! They are prob trying to get you to quit, since they would have a huge lawsuit on there hands if they fired you.

I think you are getting treated differently cause you are pg.

This stuff really ticks me off. If I were you i would start looking into discrimination laws in NY and start putting a case together just in case.

I would def start looking for job before you go out on Maternity leave, at least get your resume up to par.

Good luck and hang in thereChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

And if I were you, I would obviously STILL keep looking for another position, but take their assinine new rule about having someone sit at your desk and stick to it as absolutely closely as you can because I can guarantee that it will eventually get really old that someone has to do that because I'm assuming it will take away from what THEIR job is. I'd also get a note from your doctor saying that you need to be able to use the bathroom whenever you need to. I'm totally serious. My thoughts on things like this are always to give them what they want because in the end, what they think they want from you will come back to bite them in the @ss. It will. Do they really think they can send someone to sit there everytime you need to pee or eat? Give me a break.
I'd also figure out a way to document the calls on your phone and MAKE your supervisor look at it. Then, if they DO fire you, you will have something to back you up.
I'm so sorry they are doing this to you. It's completely wrong!

Re: How can I hold out? (VENT)

Thanks so much ladies!!!

I am just sooo upset about this. How can this be coming out of the blue all of a sudden? It just doesn't make sense. My DH is p@ssed as well. He also works for the same department as me, just not in the same office. He wants to say something, but I know that would only make things worse.

I just can't understand how not one word was said to me in 1.5 years, but now all of a sudden??? I HATE THIS PLACE!!! Chat Icon

Thanks again! Chat Icon

I'll definitely be sending out my resume ASAP! Things happen for a reason!

I have a friend who works in HR for a large university and she sees them do this to employees a lot. Are you part of a union? Is there someone who can advocate for you or on your behalf?

I was thinking the same thing. The same crap started when I told my company that I was pregnant (for my first pregnancy). It was like they were purposely trying to upset me so I'd quit. They succeeded, in my case, but don't let them in yours. Stay strong Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I absolutely agree with Rachel (btw, great idea). Have your doctor write a note regarding your "necessity to use the bathroom due to your medical condition". You will have put them on notice that they need to accomodate your disability AND it will also tell them that you will be documenting everything that comes up. I would absolutely document everything (including the phone thing) immediately. If they are trying to find fault with you because of your pregnancy, you'll have the backup your attorney will need.
Also, become the world's best employee. Read your employee handbook (if you were given one) & know the policies. Feel free to quote the handbook.

Things have a way of working themselves out in the end. Keep your eye open for jobs - and if you get fired from this one - I hope you get a huge settlement.

I'm sorry you're stressed - it's the last thing you need right now.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i agree with others, document everything.

don't let them get to you, laugh it off if you have to, you do NOT need the extra stress on the baby. if it were me, i would even go so far as to start making jokes and/or insinuating this has something to do with your pregnancy. no one wants a lawsuit on their hands and there are ways to shut people up by alluding to certain things without flat out threatening...

stay calm, and remember it's only a job, you will have many more...

Re: How can I hold out? (VENT)

Melissa can you go to a main HR office and express your concerns. Print out and keep that phone log. Bring it with you and discuss with HR that you have never had ANY complaints but now that you are pregnant they are lying about your performance. Keep a very detailed record. If this continues, call a lawyer about harrassment.

Keep looking for a new job!!! Don't stop. If you are in reception you may be able to find something in other industry more easily. Why stay with the University? Look everywhere.
