How can you figure out taxes?
I'm not talking solely NY, but in general, how can you figure out what you would pay? For instance, how could you compare a home in NY vs. a home in Iowa?

Re: How can you figure out taxes?
mlsli.com lists the taxes for home on LI. Maybe you could find a local real estate website for Iowa that might list the taxes? I can almost guarantee you they won't be anywhere near LI taxes. I was just talking to my mortgage consultant at Chase today and after he asked me how much my taxes were he was like, wow, you won't find taxes anywhere near that here in Ohio!

Re: How can you figure out taxes?
But what key words do you look for? For instance, if I see for a town $1.017 per $100 assessed...well, let's say the home is assessed for $325,000.
Is this calculation correct?
1.017 x 325,000=330,525
Then take 330,525 and divide it by 100 to = $3305.25 as yearly property taxes? Then would I divide by 12 to get monthly property taxes of $275.44?

I would do it that way so yes I believe it is the correct way to determine it.

Re: How can you figure out taxes?
Thank you!
ETA: Oh and one more question...assessed value...is that what you paid for it? Or what you re-financed for, if that's the case?

Re: How can you figure out taxes?
Assessed value isn't necassarily either of the two. It is a number determined by the assessors office in the area you are moving to and can be a percentage of real market value.

Re: How can you figure out taxes?
call the town hall for the area the house is in & they will give you the exact price for the house you are looking at. (you will need address) i think its the taxation dept. at town hall but you can prob call main line & they will direct you.....
mlsli doenst always have the correct taxes, sometimes they put what the people where paying with STAR, vets. discount & that is not the true price..
def call the hall...
