How can you mend a broken heart?
My dh picked up our 11 year old son from school today.My son was in tears when he walked into our home.He than went and locked himself in the bathroom.My dh told me that his "girlfriend" decided to leave him for another guy
How would you guys handle this? What should i do to make him feel better about this? This is the first time he cries over a girl and the first time my son cries and i can not make him feel better

 Aww, poor kid. I would just tell him that things happen for a reason and there is another girl out there that is better for him.

I dread this happening to me. I still feel angry when I think of when my kids first got their feelings hurt. First love is even harder.
Maybe tell him that you date many people before you find the right one? I would think knowing that he has his whole life to fall in/out love with other girls & he will would help somewhat.
or
I know it hurts, but I need you to know that it will get better. It always does?
I know when my nephew got hurt when a girl jerked him around, I told him to ignore the girl & pretend he never cared because it would bug her helped him. On the other hand, it was a complete betrayal to my sex. So I'm not sure it was a great idea.

I told him something similar to what you said" you have your whole life ahead of you...."
But i felt my heart hurting to see him cry and just nod his head.At this age i wouldn't think he would understand.
It's so freakin hard to see your kids hurt and you can not make it"better".

I swear I think the term "growing pains' is more for the kids.
I was on the phone with my mom & she said just wait. when you're a grandparent, you offer to take hit out on the kid.

Give him lots of hugs (I'm sure you are already) and tell him you are sorry he feels sad, and it will get better, but you know it's very hard for him right now or something to that effect. Did you have a boyfriend at that age or a little older or did DH have a girlfirend? Maybe one of you could tell him your story.
How hard! I dread the day when someone makes my DS cry--I know it will happen sooner or later.
