How come I work so hard...
And never ever call out sick...and when I need to take time off Friday to go to a wake, I get push back?
I'm truly offended and angry. If I'm going to get this kind of attitude, don't expect me putting in anything near 100% effort.

That is just wrong. Sometimes I feel like it doesn't even pay to be a responsible, reliable worker anymore.
Because your bosses come to EXPECT it rather than appreciate it.
It seems that the people who are constantly taking advantage are the ones who get away with everything!
SO frustrating!

I feel ya. There are people here who call in sick once a week or at least every other week but when I need a vacation day (and schedule in advance by the way) I get flack.
But seriously for a wake you shouldnt have to hear one word about taking off for that....

I compeltely agree with you!
I am pregnant and I make a point of having ALL of my doctor's appointments and sonograms either before work hours, after work hours or on the weekends.
I have to come in late on friday because I have the glucose test and my bosses are acting like I cut off someone's foot! For god's sake, I will be in by 10am!
We used to have someone work here who abused the system and he got away with murder, my DH is gets so mad when they give me a hard time about stuff that I need to take off for.
Sorry, vent over. I totally feel your pain tho, you are going to a WAKE, not to a freakin pool party!

my job does the same thing...they never will give me off when I NEED IT...so last week I NEEDED off...they told me no....well I developed the "Flu" and they paid me to "stay home sick."
they can kiss it!

I've always been so honest about that stuff and now I'm learning it doesn't pay here. Luckily I am constantly working on new projects for new people. I've been on this one since I came back from Maternity Leave.
Lests just say there is a mental health day in my future

It's too bad you already told them you had a wake to go to. Otherwise, you could have just been "sick" and called out in the morning.
