Us too!
I know someone else posted a few months ago that they had a little party with their families and made a cake with pink or blue food coloring. And when they cut the pieces people saw pink or blue cake. I have no idea who did it but it was a lot cuter than I'm explaining!

Re: how did everyone tell
we got permission to record a sonogram and put it on dvd. we told both of our parents (done at different times) that we had our 'honeymoon video' ready for them to see....and we started the dvd with a fancy HONEYMOON menu....had dave walking into a building and then, BLAMMO our sonogram...including heartbeat.
dave's mom's reaction, 'Son of a witch!'...
my mom didn't get it...my dad was crying.

Same here-hard to be spontaneous 1300 miles away.
Even though DH was with me, I got him a bib for her that said Daddy's Little Girl.
I heard of some people who baked a cake with blue or pink ribbons or frosting in the middle and when people cut into it, they saw!

Re: how did everyone tell
i have always been curious about this - i am TTC and need to do IVF so for the IVF ladies, how did you tell your families?
if they knew you were going through IVF, could you still find a way to surprise them?

Re: how did everyone tell
My level 2 is next thurs and I decided to have the tech right the name down and stick it in an envelope for us.
So later that night I can open it up with all of my family and some friends there. Our moms really wanted to come to the appt, I didn't want too many people there. So i compromised and said we can all find out together at home.

Re: how did everyone tell
I had so many cute ideas but I couldnt wait to tell LOL so after I called to say we were having a boy with my 1st, I then gave bibs to the family With this pregnancy (a girl) I also couldnt wait so we called everyone again LOLOL. Now DH's family has NO girls and his mom was hoping this one was, but she said she wanted a bib either way to keep with tradition. So after the level II we went to her house and played it coy, saying how the baby was healthy, etc and shes like sooo??? and we handed her the PINK bib and she was so happy, jumping up and down LOL it was sweet. For my my friends I sent a text saying OH BOY...It's a girl!! DS is going to have a sister! I know none of my ways of telling were original

We just called and told, but we found out right along with finding out the cvs results, so we had to tell everyone right away, becuase everyone was anxious to find out everything was ok.
on a side note...that cake looks delicious!

Re: how did everyone tell
We did the full house thing and made dinner foods that had to do with "baby" ; "Salad with baby lettuce, baby corn, shredded baby carrots, baby shrimp...." "baby back ribs..." What ever we could think of. We introduced the dishes, but my mom started talking about someone else who was having a baby. We said a prayer before we ate and revealed it that way; "Thank you for giving us such a wonderful family, and God bless the baby......." FINALLY they got it. For dessert we served individual little pies that each said "Grandma", "Grandpa", "Uncle John"..... It was fun and everyone remembered it.

Re: how did everyone tell
For our first we announced at Thanksgiving and before everyone started eating DH stood up and thanked his parent's for the meal and then told them that next year they would need another chair because there would be another grandchild...took everyone a minute but once it sunk in everyone was jumping up screaming.
For this pregnancy we had DS wear a big brother shirt.
