How Did You...

How did you tell your family when you broke the news you were pregnant. I am curious to hear what others have done so I don't have to re-invent the wheel. Any fabulous ideas? Chat Icon

How Did You...

With my first, I sent my mom a picture of the positive test (very faint line) and asked her if she could see it. LOL.

This time around, I actually told my parents on Mother's Day. I gave my mom 3 cards - one from me and dh, one from our dd, and one from the baby.

My mom knew immedaitely but for everyone else I had Hailey wear a Big Sister Tshirt... we were at my cousins graduation party and we had Shauns cousins graduation party later that day so we had an opportunity to hit both together.... and i was 11w so i felt somewhat comfortable

Re: How Did You...

We just told our parents- sort of dropped it in conversation. I was 12 weeks.

We haven't told anyone else yet because I've been too nervous. I'm 19 weeks and I have to see my 2 best friends next week. I don't think I need to tell them anymore, they'll see for themselvesChat Icon

Re: How Did You...

My DH and I always laugh over this.... I am direct... (So, Amelia's going to be a big sister! OR You ready to be (grandparent/aunt/uncle) again?!) whereas my husband drops these hints in conversation. Like, dropping, "won't it be crazy you'll have 3 grand kids to shop for this Christmas", or "too bad Christina can't go on the rides in disney this year" or, "I suppose we will have to do some photoshopping to that family picture") - basically if you're not fully listening it will go over your head! With neither of my pregnancies did I do a "big reveal". I don't like the attention, and I'm so superstitious.

For my first I sent flowers to my parents and the card said "congratulations to the newest grandparents" (it was their first grandchild). I have it on video to. It was great! They were confused for a second. My dad almost told the delivery person they had the wrong people. Lol

Eta: for my second we did the shirt for dd that said "only child expiring March 2015". She wore the shirt at a family bbq. That was cool too, it took some a while to get it.

How Did You...

With DD1, we told my mom and her side of the family with a cake at a BBQ. The cake said "We're having a baby!" except the guy in the bakery dept. of Stop and Shop had awful handwriting so it ended up working out because I asked - Can you tell what this says? And they slowly made out each word. We told my Dad, SM, and IL's at a BBQ for my dad & MIL's birthdays by giving them cards that said Grandpa/Grandma from the baby. We have both reveals on video.

For DD2, the reveals were much less eventful. I left the test out for my mom but she didn't notice it all. She was asking me about DD's carseat since we had just moved her from the infant seat to a convertible so I said we'll be keeping her infant seat for when baby #2 comes. We let it slip to my dad and SM when they were talking about taking a trip in the fall, so I cautiously asked when since my due date is Sept. 1st. ANd then he said, why? Is Hayley going to be a big sister? And I said maybeeee..... lol. And then we told IL's that Hayley was going to be a big sister.

We told our parents/my brothers on the phone. They knew we were seeing an RE so it wasn't that much of a surprise.

We told the rest of the family/close friends on Easter. We sent out a Happy Easter text of an Easter basket filled with eggs, chocolates and a sonogram front and center. I was 12 weeks 6 days at that point.

We told my family at Christmas. I got my grandma a picture frame that said great grandmother coming soon and put a sonogram picture in it. When she turned it around everyone saw.

Re: How Did You...

With #1, DH & I had recently gone on vacation and I had put all of the pictures in an album that I told my family I wanted them to see. As they were flipping through fun photos, the last page had a picture of both the positive pregnancy test and the first ultrasound. They were SHOCKED!

With #2, my mom knew right away as I had had some losses and she was with me through all of them. But for my sisters (who are OOS) I had told them by posting a picture privately to just them welcoming the newest member of our family (DH had gotten a new puppy that week). Then I added another "oh, and this one too" with DD holding a picture of the ultrasound in place of the pup. For local in-laws we just had DD wear a Big Sister shirt to our 4th of July BBQ.

I have to say though that the gender reveal was way more fun than the pregnancy reveal Chat Icon
