How did you ask for a raise at your job?
Or a bonus?
I'm curious to know what you said and the % raise (or bonus) you asked for.
Did you get what you asked for? If not, did you negotiate?
Or if you're a manager/owner/higher up... how would you like to be approached about raises/bonuses? How long do you think someone should be working at a company to deserve a raise/bonus?
(Not asking for me... a friend and I were talking about it last night.)

Re: How did you ask for a raise at your job?
I can answer from both sides.
When I wanted a raise, I went to salary.com & did an analysis of the different jobs that I do. No one job fit my job description.
I printed out the different jobs along with salaries & brought them in to plead my case.
When asked for an increase, I'd like to see someone do the same.
Base it on the marketplace & on merit - going above & beyond my job.
Discuss what ROI you gave to the company - company savings, company sales.
The wrong way to do it: Compare your salary to your co-worker's Tell me you do your job, you show up on time, you travel 100% of the time (when the job requires travel 100%). Anything that meets the job requirements doesn't get an increase. At minimum, I expect people to do the job they are hired.
eta. the rest of my increases were given to me. I received a raise for agreeing not to interview for a job. I received one for turning down another job within the company.
