How did you come up with your pets name?

For our IG Lilly - ever since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to name my daughter Lilly. Lo and behold, I married a guy with a last name that rhymes with Lilly, so there went that name for a human child. There's no way I could have used it without having my child having a RIDICULOUSLY rhyming mane.

When we got Espresso (cat) we were going to call him Diego (from Ice Age), but he was so little, all black and bouncing all over the house that DH said "Maybe we should call him Espresso since he acts like he just drank a cup" and it stuck.

Misty got her name cuz she was called Roxy by her previous owners, but neither one of us loved the name and two of my friends dogs are named Roxy. But we wanted something that sounded close so as not to confuse her too much and Misty just seemed to fit.

All of my dogs as an adult were already named when I got into the picture! I got Hershey from a co-worker, DH got & named Bailey with his ex-GF before we met and Max was nine when we adopted him from Little Shelter.


We named our Siberian Husky when I was five, Wolf and our subsequent cat, Kitty


When I was in HS my parents got a black cat which we had no idea what to name and a cute boy at school came up with Inky.

Since he is an Italian Greyhound we wanted to come up w/ a cool Italian name but something short.

We went online and looked at Italian boy names and we were stuck between Roma and Luca and i looked at him and thought- he is SUCH a Luca

We named her Sandy after the color of her fur (light brown) and our favorite bartender from a local bar that we went to every weekend.....

It was so hard coming up with a name for a boy dog. We wanted something that sounded Hawaiian and we came up with Kobie.

Scout - well To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite book ever. But I told DH I wanted to name him Scout because the night Eboy passed away, we were in bed talking about when we were Boy and Girl Scouts. So that was part of the reason too.

Their names are Crockett and Tubbs.

My dog's name is America, though we all call her Meri.
She was my Sept 11th therapy. I was there that day and was traumatized by the events of the day. My birthday is on September 15th and my mom asked me what I wanted. Not really caring about anything I told her that the only thing I really wanted was a dog. DH and I were living in an apartment which we rented from a woman who told us no dogs when we moved in and signed the lease. My mom called her and due to the events of the week she allowed my mom to get me a dog. Meri is the love of my life!

My son named his kitten Baby...I guess because we kept telling him you have to do nice she is only a baby!

For Jessi...we just put a bunch of names in a hat and picked one...creative I know


for Morgan...Cpt Morgan rum

and Riley...I just thought of girls names at my school and we liked Riley best

We have the 2 dogs

Liberty (A.K.A) Libby- We adopted her for my son Nico's birthday after the events of September 11 and my husband was away deployed (he is in the Army) and when I asked Nico what name he wanted he said Well... something to honor what daddy does for the country and I said well he fights for our Safety, Freedom & Liberty. So he picked Liberty.

Jewelz- My husband got her as a gift for me and brought her while I was out at an appointment to surprise me while I was driving home with her, she was trying to chew on my engagement ring then my tennis bracelet and I said "oh you like jewels do ya" TA DA hence the name Jewelz!!

Jedi (male jack russell): my husband named him. Obviously it's a star wars thing!

Tiger & Rocky (our male cats): My husband named Tiger because he has the tiger stripes and i named Rocky.

Our little yorkie is Daisy (after Daisy Duke) from the TV show "Dukes of Hazzard" DH's choice, and we went with it. He wants to get a little boy and name it Duke!

Boris & Nadine...they are Russian Tortoises. Originally named Natasha & Nadine until we found out Natasha was a Boris

Cooper was named after the street FH grew up on, Cooper Ave. We got Cooper shortly after FH moved down to LI from upstate... he was extremely home sick, so when we got Cooper, I thought the name worked great and it cheered FH up a lot!

mtdr1106 suggested Dot when I was polling for names.

We went with Dottie as an ode to PeeWee Herman.

I'm a rebel Dottie a rebel.

Suki: my aunt had a Siamese kitten named Suki when I was little and I always loved the name.

Deisel: when we got him, DH thought it would be funny to name this tiny little puffball kitten this big strong name. And no, it's not after Vin Deisel.

Luna: she was a total lunatic puppy, plus, I always loved the name Luna.

I've loved the name Lacey for years. Now that I'm pg with a girl, I'm a little bummed that I already used it on my dog!
