Re: How did you get a job?
I knew a teacher....Well I really didn't even know her. There was a girl who posted on LIW that she had just gotten a job at this school. I FMed her, asked if there were any openings, got the principals info and faxed me resume. The next day the principal called me, I went in and got the job. And that was a school in NYC.
IMO most people get jobs from knowing someone.

Re: How did you get a job?
I saw an ad in the Times for a teacher opening in my district (Nassau County). I applied, went through the interview process and got the job. Prior to working in the district, I knew no one and very little about the district, other than that it has excellent schools.

I was finishing my student teaching and an opening in another school in the district opened up, my director asked me to apply for it, and it was mine!

Re: How did you get a job?
Interviewed and got a job as a permanent sub, then got a leave replacement, then was offered a probationary position. Also had 3 years experience in pre-school which helped.

Re: How did you get a job?
I was a sub in 4 districts on Long Island. Kept working full time everyday and handed in my resume after a year for a perm sub. Got that job and then took over for a maternity leave for someone and my principal offered me a full time for the next year. I definity didn't know anyone and just worked my azz off to get the job I have today. Persistence, I never gave up wanting to teach on the island!

Re: How did you get a job?
Before I graduated from college I sent my resume to every school district on LI that I was interested in working in even if they were posting jobs or not. That summer I drove cross-country and the day that I got back I got a phone call from a district and got the job.

Re: How did you get a job?
I was teaching in Queens for two years and was being transferred to another school. I did a mass mail of resumes and received an interview and got the job.

Re: How did you get a job?
timing..
student taught for a semester... after i graduated I took a asst position in glen head but still kept in touch with principal and teachers I worked for in my student teacher district..
following year was offered an interview to get my foot in the door. didnt get it but was offered a reading asst position...meantime was offered a job at my friends school in brooklyn..
so i had to decide full time nyc job with salary and benefits and at a brand new school in bklyn or a reading asst postition for crappy pay and no benefits but getting my foot in the door with a possibility of being noticed and getting a job. also was going for masters in reading..
took a chance with the asst position.. did that for 6 months from there I got a leave replacement and from there a full time job... just so happened that year 6 teachers left the school to go to another one in the district because they didnt like the principal at the time. so when the principal hired me , she gave me a choice of what grade i wanted!!! I took 3rd and have taught 3rd grade for 7 1/2 tears now
