How do deal with Jealousy in a 19 mo old...
DS is the first grandchild on both sides so has gotten a LOT of attention since birth. This problem started when his first cousin was born - at first it was only when DH or i would hold her but now it has branched out - if anyone who he loves holds her he gets very upset. If she starts to get alot of attention - same story.
Now it has gotten worse b/c he is reacting like this at classes, playgroups, chruch, anywhere we are - if a younger baby starts getting all the attention or if DH and I start to give them any attention. The worst part is he acts out either crying hysterically or, even worse, whacking his head on whatever is nearby - this scares me the most b/c I am afraid he is going to get hurt (i think this is why this has b/c his method of choice b/c i react to it but how can I not? just let him give himself a concussion?).
Anyway I have NO idea how to deal with this and it seems to be getting worse. NOt sure if anyone has ever dealt with this but please help me if you can

DS used to do this a bit too - if DH hugged me or kissed me DS would yell MOMMY MOMMY until i hugged and kissed him too That's gotten better though...now he is too busy doing his own thing to care what mommy and daddy are doing but, this is even worse!

Re: How do deal with Jealousy in a 19 mo old...
Is he allowed to 'hold' the baby himself? (With help of course) Maybe if you all ooo and ahhh over him taking such good care of the baby, and that he is the big cousin, maybe he'll get better?
My cousins all love to hold DS (they are all young). They get pictures taken with the baby all the time and constantly want 'another turn' holding him. We tell them what a great cousin they are being.
My second thought is to get him a doll, I know your DH might have a problem with it, but it might help him put 2 and 2 together.
Just a thought.
