How do get her to SIT on her potty

So, I have taken the plunge and starting to work on potty training with DD. She comes to me and says "stinky new diaper" when she is dirty, so I figured that was a cue. She loves to watch her Elmo Potty Time DVD and asks for it by name. We went to the store and picked out a potty the other day along with a stepstool for the bathroom. She likes to play with the seat ring, but won't actually sit on it.

She will sit on the toilet with her clothes on and the lid closed. I have tried to sit her on the potty ring with her clothes on, justto get her used to it, but she freaks out. She was excited at the store to buy it...and keeps calling it "Mollie's potty", but how can I get her to SIT on it, so I can actually get her to use it?

Any tips/advice?

I had the most success putting DS on the potty first thing in the morning. He would usually pee then. That helped him understand that potties are for peeing. I also bought him Elmo's potty book and it was a special book he got to look at while he was on the potty -- he liked that. So special books or toys might help keep her interest.

Well I didnt have to go this route w/ DS...but my MIL who has raised 7 children told me what she used to do
( and this may be controversial Chat Icon ) is she would give her kids a lollypop for as long as they sat on the potty, if they got up, the lolly went back in the wrapper till next time...She claimed it worked, but that really all depends on how you feel about the whole candy thing...My DS was good with a book, or a hand toy to tinker with...Also the "Its Potty Time"movie is good ( a little corny, but good Chat Icon )

Re: How do get her to SIT on her potty

Anyone else have any advice? I asked her if her doll could sit on the potty...she promptly brought the baby doll to the potty and put her on it. Then I asked if she wanted to sit on the potty too...she said "no" and walked away Chat Icon

30 seconds later she asked if she could watch Elmo's Potty Time Chat Icon

The SAME thing happened with Steven. Sorry, no advice. I just keep the potty in the bathroom so it's not a stranger to him and hope that by some miracle he decides to go on it. Chat Icon

Michael does the same thing. He rather walk around the house holding the potty or putting his toys in it but will not sit on it especially without his diaper on.
