how do head hunters work...
do they get a % of <the person they finda job for's> salary from the employer if the employee works there for a certain amount of time?
Are they on the employee's side or the employers side?
a coworker of mine is using one and she swears the head hunter screwed her by not accepting an offer from a potential employer because the offer was too low (meanwhile, she told him to accept it if they don't go any higher than a certain amt and he didn't). TIA!

The employer pays them so it's in their best interest to find someone a job at the best salary. That being said, I think they still need to act in the interest of the applicant.

Re: how do head hunters work...
Usually the agency has a contract with the employer/client stipulating the % they will charge.
So if they have a 20% fee and the client offered your friend $60,000.00 the agency would make $12,000.00.
The recruiter gets a piece of that according to their commission structure. Say 10%. The recruiter would make $1,200.00.
It's certainly possible that the recruiter is doing something shady but I'd find it weird that they would pass up any commission. Usually you just want to fill your open positions!

This is right. I was a head hunter for 2 months (I hated it). But I don't see why they would turn down a commission. Usually the head hunter knows what the salary is going into it.
