HOW do i do this!? please help-infant sleep Q. stopping binky/or moms whose DC don't use a binky
at my wits end. DS is 9 wks old. he is swaddled but seems to not like it anymore, breaking free,,,so i got to stop that. ALSO, he is addicted to the binky now. looking for it ALL NIGHT LONG. he is upstairs, we are downstairs. i spend all night walking up and down the stairs to put it in. ok,,,,so to stop the binky what can i do to soothe him? otherwise. with DD i did CIO when she was 5 months and she figured it out with the binky. obviously i can't do it now @ 9 wks but CANNOT do this for another 3 months til he's old enough for CIO. without the binky, what else can i do to help DS but not give him another sleep crutch? TIA TIA TIA for any advice you can offer! can i stop the swaddle AND the binky at this age!?

my DS wasn't swaddled and never really took to the binky (only his first couple of weeks). I think your DS is too young to stop these aids. He's still so young

yeah i agree he is too young...i suppose i need to wait to cut them when he is older? i guess it will be hard either way. what did you do to soothe your DS then without those kind of aids? was he able to fall asleep and stay asleep without them? thanks!

try swaddling him with his arms out. DD needed her arms free, because she liked to rub the back of her head in a means to self soothe (she doesn't really take the binky). She slept SO much better this way. We swaddled her this way until she was 5.5 months. (she's just about 8 months now)

Carolynn never took to the binky. She did like being swaddled, but, eventually started breaking free. Once she did that, I just stopped doing it. She seems much happier without it. She likes being "free".
I will say, she is still in our room with us (and will be for a little more time). As for the binky, I'll agree its probably to young to stop it.
She will fall asleep downstairs, but, when its time to bring her up to the bassinet, as soon as lights are back on, she's up. I turn the lamps off and she puts herself back to sleep. Is DS' room dark? Maybe a dark room would help him sleep better?

I think it's too early to remove the crutches, if he needs them - someone posted some contraption on here, like a stuffed animal that attaches to the binky, that helps it stay in so they don't wake all the time looking for it - I would look into something like that for now!

Re: HOW do i do this!? please help-infant sleep Q. stopping binky/or moms whose DC don't use a binky
I think 9 weeks is a little young to CIO so I'd probalby keep the binky. If he falls asleep how often is he waking up (that you have to run upstairs to replace the binky?) Is he sleeping through the night yet?
I had the same problem, only when DD went to sleep for the night at 7:30ish, I'd put her upstairs and if she would keep waking up for the binky I would just stay upstairs and watch tv in our bedroom incase she woke up again. Some nights I wanted to be up there anywya to sleep b/c I was tired from still getting up in the middle of the night for feedings. DD eventually would fall asleep for the night or at least until the next feeding, but like you, I kept replacing the binky when she woke. Luckily at 4mos she started sleeping through the night (and not waking for the binky) and at 6-7 mo's she started being able to put it in her mouth herself.
I let my son keep the binky (for sleep only) until he was 22 mos (about) and took it away cold turkey and he was fine (stopped asking for it) after 2 days. I plan to let DD keep it until about then too.

aww thanks... it doesnt attach persay..but you could easily make it work... cut the paci off and sew on a 1 in piece of fabric to where you cut off the paci and loop it around the NUK handle. and waaala!
