How do I get them to sleep from 8pm-overnight?
Hi everyone, let me know if I'm being ridiculous, putting the cart before the horse, etc etc
Now that they've been sleeping through the night for over a month (11pm/Midnight - 7am) how do I get them to do a longer stretch of overnight sleep? I've tried clusterfeeding at 7PM then again at 10, and no matter how milk drunk they were, they still woke up
They go down to sleep with no problem, get plenty of naptime and playtime during the day, so Ideally they should sleep longer.... or is it too soon?
TIA

2 thoughts...
If they are around 3mo and are sleeping for 8 hours straight, that's pretty good and I don't know if I would want to mess it up!
However...
ETA:
Sorry I read part of the question wrong....
Try to get them to eat more right before 8pm. Establist a bedtime routine so they know that it's different that a regular naptime. I usually made my babies stay awake after the 5pm bottle so at 730, they were starving and exhausted so they would eat more and pass out for the night.

Re: How do I get them to sleep from 8pm-overnight?
My girls didnt drop the 10/11 pm bottle until they were 7 months adjusted. They would sleep from lets say 7 until we woke them at 1030 and then they went directly back to bed until 6 ish. If we didnt wake them, they had us up around 1/2 am.
BM or formula? That also makes a big difference.

Don't get me wrong, I am very excited and happy about 11-7 straight. Just planning ahead and wondering when that should start. My cousin's baby slept from 7 to 6am at this age and i was wondering if I was off or what.
They're formula fed btw....

This is where I was thinking I should go. I'll wait till they weigh more first... they're 11 lbs each now. Thanks

Re: How do I get them to sleep from 8pm-overnight?
The ped said 6 hrs btwn feedings at 3 mo and 8 hrs at 4 mo. My girls did 8 at 3 mo. they eat about 8:30 then wake at 4:30. Its hard because now they wake earlier than 4:30 and they are slowly taking more at feedings. I think its a matter of them being able to take more at feedings to keep full longer. It seems though that once they do this, its time to take on more and they cant go the extra hour Id be hapy if they could sleep til 6!!
Let me know if you find the magic trick!

Re: How do I get them to sleep from 8pm-overnight?
Mine started going that long around that age. At 1 week shy of 4 months actual, they started sleeping from about 8 pm-6 am. Now their last bottle is anywhere between 6:30 and 7:30 and they wake up between 6 and 7 the next morning.
The way we dropped the MON feeding was when they woke up around 3:30 am we just started giving them less and less every week at that feeding until they were down to an oz. I felt confident that they were eating enough during the day (28 oz) and weight gain was good so I wasnt concerned.
I agree with the pp about establishing a routine. That's how we did it. Change into pjs and change diapers, wash face and hands (if no bath) bottle (now cereal too!!), 1 or 2 stories and then bed.
We've had some pacifier issues with one of them that we're working out now but we do get a pretty decent night's sleep.
I want to add that you have to feel good about your decision and how it impacts your LOs... try not to go by how your cousin/friend/mother/coworker handled it. Every baby is different.
Good luck! Sounds like you're doing great!
ETA my girls are 1 week shy of 5 mos actual

Oh I like the feeding less idea. Although Im not sure my girls will allow it. Sometimes I have to take an xtra oz from the next bottle because they are still hungry.
They just started doing 5 oz now though so still just 25 oz with that full 4:30 bottle.
I think it comes down to them being able to take more which they don't seem to do til they are a certain weight.

How do I get them to sleep from 8pm-overnight?
Their bedtime routine is great, and they go right down to sleep. We do bottle, change into sleepsacks and PJ's, then a story/prayers and it's great, thank God. I've been putting them to bed at 10:30 after their bottle and this whole week they've slept til 5. One of them didn't even wake up till 6 yesterday and today. It works for me! I guess I'll get there in a month or so. I HAVE to get out of the habit of comparing myself to my cousin etc. She seems to have her crap together and I feel like my mom compares me to her...

Re: How do I get them to sleep from 8pm-overnight?
Mine are a year and still got up once a night, at around 3 am, up until about a month ago. Then I bit the bullet and made them cry for that 3 AM one... it took one night of crying for 15 min each and they haven't woken up for the 3 AM one since... now they don't even guzzle a full bottle when they wake up like they usually did... I was afraid I was starving them or being mean by not doing the 3 AM one... but apparently they aren't hungry and it really was just a habit...
good luck!!!! :)

nightime routine is always the best. i started it when they were 3 months old. baths EVERY night..then pajamas. then bottle. Worked like a charm.
