How do I know if he is ready for potty training?

I feel like the last of a dying breed, I am the only one of my friends with a kid in nappies...

I don't see any sign that Noah is ready, or interested in going on the toilet, and even though he went through a stage of sitting on the potty, he never ever wee'd a drop on the potty.

Today I found out that three of his best friends at daycare have been moved up to the preschool room, and its basically because they are potty trained.

I don't want to push the potty training, because thats not my parenting style, but on the other hand, I want him to do the proverbial sh1t or get off the pot...

Any advice? Words of wisdom? Tales to tell?

Just looking for support really...so thanks in advance if you can give me any advice!!

Maybe strip him down and sit him on the potty chair in the living room in front of the TV all day and give him lots of water to drink? Maybe he'll get the idea...

I had this great little book that came with his potty..best advice!

is he going extended periods of time with a dry diaper? is he waking up from naps with a dry diaper?,,,if not don't bother yet his bladder is not mature enough to hold the pee

once you start noticing the dry diaper...ditch the diapers and go straight to underwear...we had two weeks of pee on the floor and he finally got the hang of it...he was a month shy of three

Re: How do I know if he is ready for potty training?

How about taking off his diaper - and letting him pee pee on himself - let him feel the sensation of being wet (i know it sounds mean) but this is the way it worked for DD. It was a messy couple of weeks but eventually she started noticing the sensation of going to the bathroom and she would run to the potty. In the beginning it would happen once a day in the potty and gradually she would go all the time - it takes time but i found that pullups never worked for us. I had to let her run around in her panties or naked. I also potty trained in the dead of winter so I made sure the heat was high enough and she wasnt cold - it wasnt a problem for us. Also - Julia started to remove her diaper when her little sister came home at 20 months so this was the first sign for us that she was ready. Also everytime she did peepee on herself I used a bounty with cold water and wiped her down there - she would jump and disliked the sensation but eventually she knew that if she did pee pee on herself - i would get that cold bounty...lol....it worked for us..lol
