How do I know if I'm feeding him too much??

DS will be 6 weeks on Saturday.

I'm having to bottle feed right now due to medication.

He just sucked down 4 ounces of breast milk that I pumped last night and fussed and rooted so bad I offered him a couple ounces of formule which he prompted finished.

How do I know if I'm feeding him too much??

Will he just stop sucking?

I knew if i fed too much cause within a 1/2 hour, I was wearing it, my floor was covered with it and i was cleaning up spit up.Chat Icon

Their tummies are only so big, so what goes down, if it doesn't fit, will come right back up.

he might be hungry though, i think a growth spurt is coming.

He spits up a tiny tiny bit after each feeding, so I guess it's all staying in there!

Good lord. I'm going to have a cubba-wubba! Chat Icon

Noah will promptly close his mouth and turn his head away when hes done, and I wouldnt be able to even PUSH that nipple back in.

I truly think you would "know"....

he will spit up. If mine ever just hung out on there for too long, it would come right back up.

Mine is an eater, only happened 4 times.

Julia would fall asleep at the boob all the time, then would slip my nipple out of her mouth when she was done, she never spit up the breast milk when she was done feeding, so I knew she never had to much.

i agree with what the other moms said.. the baby will probably spit back up whatever they couldnt fit in their tummy.. there should always be a little bit left in the bottle when the feeding is over.. thats how you know the baby was satisfied. Chat Icon

Logan does the same thing when breastfeeding. It's always clear then.

But I wondered if he would spit out the bottle since it's just like his pacifier.

I guess if he's not spitting it up he's okay.

Now he just conked out after 2 ounces.

He's so confusing. Chat Icon

My DD who is 9 weeks will push the bottle out of her mouth when she is finished and keeps her mouth closed tight if I try to put it back in.

Aww, all babies are confusing--lol

When you give him the bottle does he play with it in his mouth? usually when there done the nipple will just be sitting in there mouths and formula will start coming out. Thats when there done.
