How do I tell the cleaners I'm firing them?

Sweet, sweet woman who has been cleaning our house for a few years, but her partner stopped and isntead she takes her daughter, who does a CRAPPY job. Last time they came, they took all the dirty dishes OUT of the dishwasher and put them away. And I mean, seriously, there's no confusing them with clean dishes, there was food hanging off the dishes! But I feel bad firing her - how do I put this delicately?

I would give them a warning before just firing them. Tell her that it's not the same since the other woman left. Maybe she doesn't realize the daughter is doing a crap job.

Yeah, I guess I'll just do that - say that we've thought about it and are trying to budget better so we're going to start cleaning ourselves again. I just hate doing this kind of thing.

Me too. I am on the phase out of my cleaning lady. She has slipped. She used to be fantastic going above and beyond but now she just does the minimum. She was weekly now shes every 2 weeks. I think this week will be it for her.

I would tell her the truth, that her daughter doesn't do as good a job as the other women, that they put your dishes away dirty. She might lose other clients because of this, so she deserves to know.

I agree...if you feel bad for her, give her a warning...if she did this in your home, then most likely she's doing this elsewhere as well...I guarantee you they'll do a much better job after a warning...especially in these times they do not want to lose their job and she might control what her daughter does a little better.

I totally agree. I'm sure they don't want to lose you as a customer and if they otherwise have done a good job, give them one chance to correct the poor work product. If they don't, then they won't be surprised that you no longer need their services.

I agree also-its not fair to fire her because her daughter is not doing a good job. Let her know, give her a chance to fix it, then if it is not good let her goChat Icon

i agree- i think i would try to find a way to let her know that you're not happy and specifially why... just to sort of give her a "warning" before you flat out fire her. it will help her improve for other clients, too.

I acutally would tell her the truth. She needs to know that you are not happy with her daughter - she could potentially loose more money down the road bc of her.

Our cleaning people were really slacking a few months ago (and they do about 15 homes in my family/friends) and we told them that we weren't happy with what they were doing - and basically - ship up - or ship out!

It has been much better since (knock on wood)

Yes, I would point it out too. I noticed once that one of my shower doors was getting dirty. My lady would do one, and not the other. I pointed it out to her and it's been fine since.

My cleaning lady is slipping a bit too lately. She was amazing in the beginning but I think she got so popular and has too many clients now. However, I would never fire her without first expressing my concerns and see if she improves.
