how do men's jacket/coat sizes work?
I'm trying to find a lined trench coat for my DH, but I can't for the life of me understand the sizing... Nothing matches his shirt size that's for sure.  Do they run the same as blazers / suit jackets?
I guess he'll have to come try them on!

T-shirts: M or L depending on the purpose (running smaller than everyday) and the cut. All the coats I was looking at had numbers, though, starting around 40.
Suits I forget, but can easily find out!
I can't check his overcoat b/c I know he had it altered. It was way too big for him.
He's almost 6' and about 180 - 185 pounds.

Usually S, M, L and XL.
My DH takes a 42 suit and takes a large coat.

Nope, these coats had numbers!
I was hoping for the S, M, and L - then I'd know what to get! Maybe if I keep looking I'll get lucky.

They go by chest size. If he has a suit jacket take that number and add 2. The coat should fit comfortably over his suit.
