Re: How do u make baby food?

i make it because it is easier than I ever thought it would be.

I recycle store-bought baby food jars. I do buy some odd stuff like corn, prunes, cinnamon rasin granola. He loves them and I can't make those.

So, I store them in the fridge in the recycled jars.

If I make a ton of carrots or something, I sometimes freeze a big batch in a glad ware container and defrost it when I am running low.

We have a food mill, but for big batches we use a food processer.

DS loves homemade:

carrots, sweet potato, butternut squash, -peas, zuccini, bananas, apples, pears ...

Re: How do u make baby food?

I think I'll be making mine as well. I want to do it b/c its cheaper, fresher, and I'll know exactly whats going into it. I only did butternut squash so far and I put 1/4 of a cup of the puree in little ziploc bags, and then one big ziploc bag in the freezer. Also, I can use the purees if I want to make any of the recipes in the deceptively delicious cookbook Chat Icon

I pureed the squash w/this:

Re: How do u make baby food?

I do it b/c it is super easy, cheap and I like to know what DD is eating. It doesn't take that much time at all and it makes a lot of food!

Re: How do u make baby food?

You freeze it , can freeze about 6 weeks worth.

I make it b/c I only want DS eating Organic foods and some of the stage 3 organic jarred foods have additives and preservatives I dont want him to have.

And its cheaper then the jars...

You basically steam the foods, puree them add freeze

Re: How do u make baby food?

I do it cause:

1. it's much cheaper than buying jars
2. there are no preservatives and I can make it 100% organic if I want
3. it's simple and I can make loads at one time
4. I can give my child more variety.

Re: How do u make baby food?

I like knowing exactly what is in my baby's food.

I haven't found a baby food that tastes really good. Even Earth's Best isn't as good as homemade.

Over the long haul it is more cost effective.

It is really easy to do. Over the weekend I make enough food for the week.
