there is def no need to sterilize anymore than the first time! So I would do the boiling then dishwasher every time after that!

Not sure what kind you had. But I had the microwave bags sterilzers and I used them until I stopped using bottles. So a whole year. So convenient and easy.

I boiled the first time, I hand wash in hot soapy water after each bottle and I microwave sanitize once a week.
If I happen to be running the dishwasher I will put the bottles in there and run the sani cycle but I don't run it enough for that to my only method of washing the bottles.

I have the Dr. Brown microwave sterilizer even though my son hated those bottles and I switched to Playtex Ventairs. I used it everyday until he was 4 months old. The best thing in my opinion it only takes 5 minutes and your done. I still use it now, not everyday but once in a while since he is 7 months I now longer sterilize as often.

I have the Medela microwave bags and I love them, use them all the time, even for pacifiers.

this is EXACTLY what i was going to say. I use the bags like a pp mentioned, but i do NOT have a dishwasher - so i don't trust that i get the water 'hot' enough...which is why i take the 90 seconds in the microwave as my fail-safe!

for those who put their breast pump parts in the sterilizer, do you have to buy the same brand sterilizer as the pump?
Also, do you need to use the same brand sterilizer as the brand of bottles you have?

Total waste of money. I used it a handful of times and then just started washing everything with soapy warm water. I keep a separate sponge for my DD's things so it doesn't get all yucked up and a few times a week I run all her sippy's and parts through the dishwasher. You really don't need a sterilizer.

I don't know if you HAVE to but I did use the medela bags, one came with the pump and another came with each extra set of bottles. They were good for 20 uses. I never had to buy a new bag because I only pumped in the beginning when I was trying to increase my supply.

I only used it while my kitchen was under construction, which was for DS's first 2 months.....Chat Icon
My dishwasher has a sani-rinse feature so I always use that.

I would get rid of it.

IMO, sterilizers are a waste.

I boiled them once when I took them out of the package and just used the dishwasher from then on out.

in THAT case - i would keep it & use it.

to ME - the water doesn't get hot enough (because, um, it would HURT) when i'm washing her bottles...so the microwave heats them to a good enough heat to 'kill' whatever my washing didn't.

always gives me a good peace of mind - that's all. is it necessary? probably not. do I feel better after doing it - YES. with the microwave bags (good for 20 uses - made by Munchkin) - it's 90 seconds. it's not like we're talking hours here...

I use an avent plug-in one that I love. For my Dr. Browns too. I have a dishwasher but its still easier and quicker to sterilize.

ITA with this, but a word of advice--DON'T sterilize the tubing that connects the pump to the breast shields. My DH did that and they turned to soup in the sterilizer Chat Icon. Burnt part of the plastic tray in the sterilizer and we had to pick burnt pieces of tubing out of it Chat Icon

We used ours all the time with DD, and will again with DS. I also think they are AWESOME for pacifiers. I wash all the pacis regularly, but it gives me peace of mind to be able to sterilize them after DD has been sick or after they wound up in gross places, like on the floor of the public bathroom Chat Icon

I had a Medela pump and used the Dr. Brown microwave sterilizer for all the bottles and breast pump parts until DS was 3 months old.
