How do you cook DC's chicken?
I am looking for "plain" chicken for DS.
Do you use the frying pan? Do you boil in water?
We are going to try the solid food thing again.
TIA

Re: How do you cook DC's chicken?
This is one topic that has me baffled. DS is almost 1 and I am constantly scared to give him chicken because it takes him forever to chew it up.
I have tried baking it and cutting it into small pieces. The most recent thing I did was take ground chicken and just cook it up in a pan. It gets all crumbly and then DS will pick up little pieces of it to try and eat.
But it still takes him forever to eat it.

Re: How do you cook DC's chicken?
Now that Lucas eats what we eat I tend to bake my chicken cutlets - that's what he likes best...smother it in breading and he's all on it.
Oops sorry you said plain...I do boil chicken in stock for him and add some veggies.

Re: How do you cook DC's chicken?
DD likes when I roast chicken. It stays SUPER juicy and gives a lot of flavor. I find it's easier for her to chew it when cooked this way since it stays super juicy.

Re: How do you cook DC's chicken?
I used to roast a big chicken when the boys were little. Rob and I would have chicken dinner that night and then I cut little pieces for the boys and mix with rice or orzo and diced veggies.
I also grilled cutlets for them when they were smaller - but I find that roasting makes the meat a little more tender and therefore easier to chew/swallow.

Re: How do you cook DC's chicken?
I use ground chicken and make meatballs or patties in the beginning that is what the ped suggested b.c it is easy to break into really small pieces. I have also boiled a bonesless breast in low sodium organic chicken broth for some flavor. But now I generally make a plain piece of boneless chicken breast flattened for her on a grill pan - I make sure to flip it often so it cooks thru but doesn't get hard. Then I cut it up or shred it into small bit size pieces and give it to her with veggies or veggies and alphabet pasta. She actually prefers plain for the most part.
Sophie I think it is easiest when they start to try the ground chicken b.c I could get it into the smallest pieces. When I did that I would make chicken meatballs and brown them in a pan and then simmer them in low sodium chicken broth with some diced tomatoes and veggies (so they are softer when ready to eat). I found she did the best with that and they were nice and soft.

Re: How do you cook DC's chicken?
I bake DD's chicken (or I use an already made chicken from BJ's)
But she hates plain chicken so there is always something for her to dip it in (90% of the time I use pureed veggies since I still have some) and she likes it that way

Not that she eats much, but she seems to like it grilled best...I've also baked whole chickens/chicken breasts and given it to her from that...

Re: How do you cook DC's chicken?
I grill it, dice it up and have even grilled it and put it in the food processor and just added water for the consistency not to be too dry. She loves it! We have also given her chicken cutlets chopped very small.

I totally agree with this! DS was a BIG gagger when we first started solids and i gave him all his meats in meat ball form - chicken, turkey and beef - i even cooked it in broth to make it softer - it was SO easy to eat then! Good luck!

How long do you boil chicken for?
It depends on the type of chicken you are making - I use the boneless skinless, flattened type which cooks very quickly.

It depends how small you cut it up ... I cut it into cubes and maybe it takes 8-10 mins? I cut the biggest cube to make sure the inside isn't pink

Grilled, on the stovetop with Italian dressing, fried, baked, crockpot meal, or however we're having it.

Re: How do you cook DC's chicken?
for "plain" chicken I roast or BBQ it. DS like any type of chicken as long as he has plenty of applesauce on the side. He favorite is FRIED chicken cutlets!
