How do you feel about weird piSSing matches that go on within threads?

For example- someone posts a problem or question, various people respond, a person or persons specifically questions or critiques another persons post(perhaps for accuracy, grammar or otherwise), the person being "corrected" replies & this continues through the thread back & forth all while other people are replying to the original topic.

Is this really weird, funny & yet creepy all at the same time to you? It is to me.
I just really don't give a rats *** about spelling or grammar(as most of you that are bothered by it may have noticed ) and sometimes it seems like certain people are being particularly targeted by others.
Its just weird as hell to me, I really don't read INTO what other people write enough to critique it or correct them.
Am I off base with this?

I kind of agree about that grammar corrections. I think usually that is done because they think the poster's point is stupid or because they don't "like" the poster

Thanks for your reply. I'm not on THAT often & I usually have no idea about the drama or stuff that goes on behind the scenes. I do try to read everything that catches my eye on the first page or so & I'm always surprised when I see this stuff going on. Maybe these people don't like eachother & I'm just too out of the loop to know it. It just seems sort of mean spirited to me.

Honestly I think it is dumb, and a lot of people have WAY to much time on their hands.

I'm mostly on parenting, but I have seen what you're talking about over here on NFR and I don't get it either.

You know...I don't really notice half the types of things people notice going on here sometimes...

I do get annoyed by threads that insinuate a reference to another thread because then I have to go around looking for it to find out what the heck people are talking about. (I'm just messin' with ya)

To answer the original question (now that I know what thread you are talking about)... I don't really care 99% of the time... there are misunderstandings in threads all the time... sometimes two people have a history that I have no clue about, sometimes there is underlying tension or drama from a recent thread, sometimes there is just a simple miscommunication because you can't always read people's tones on the internet... so I don't really care.

I usually find it amusing. I find it funny watching women bicker over the littlest things... it makes guys arguments over which was the best year for the Ford Mustang, or who was the hottest Baywatch Babe, etc. seem actually intelligent and meaningful....

I'm guilty of bad grammer...so I don't find it necessary to point out incorrect grammer or spelling...this is a discussion forum, not an English Class

Especially if it is a thread with bad news or is sad, I feel like it is not very nice to do this. I know that debates can get carried away but its like hijacking the thread a little bit. The original post is for advice or hugs, and these side debates distract from that.

For the other threads I don't care as much, but for serious ones I do not like it.

eh.
In real life, I wouldn't waste my time on people that are like that- nit picky, mean spirited, and trivial. So I just ignore it on here too.
Gets the same reaction out of me.

I try my hardest not to be harsh with anyone on this forum, unless it is someone that I share jabs with. I am definately not one to correct spelling or grammar. I am not around enough to see this type of stuff I guess. I do definately get off topic on some threads and for that I appologize. I have been getting better as of recent though.

I have to admit, it irks me when I see blatant spelling and grammar mistakes. I'm mean when your post is just a mess and difficult to read, then it's annoying to me. BUT I would never call someone out on it bc I recognize that this is a chat forum and not an English class.

It irks me when I see poor grammar (people writing u instead of you), But I would never 'out' them on a public board and tell them their grammar suck$.

As for the p!ssing matches...I guess was all have our period at the same time.

You are not alone! I don't know why it's necessary to correct someone else's grammar on a thread! Some people have way to much time on their hands!

I have corrected grammar on very rare occassions but really only after a person has attacked me for something.

Az somewon who alwayze spellz things completlie wrong on theze boardz, I cud care less when people make spellin errorrs. Itz a discushion bored, not Engesh class.
