It irks me when I see poor grammar (people writing u instead of you), But I would never 'out' them on a public board and tell them their grammar suck$.
As for the p!ssing matches...I guess was all have our period at the same time.
I completely agree.
Only exception for me is if someone is doing it repeatedly & I suspect they don't know better, like misusing an expression. I would correct them because I wouldn't want people IRL to think they're stupid.

Re: How do you feel about weird piSSing matches that go on within threads?
Grammar, spelling, punctuation and syntax are VERY important to me. I am in a constant state of self-correction. I am far from perfect myself.
This is a message board. I do not feel the need to call people out but, like Stefanie, I am irked when I see errors.
HOWEVER, I will ALWAYS be more than slightly irritated when someone spells the word "grammar" this way: G-R-A-M-M-E-R. I don't care how lame that makes me.

I completely agree. I don't call anyone out on it, but the poor grammar and spelling bothers me.

This isn't answering the question but I think it's weird that people can make a judgement on whether they "like" or "don't like" someone from a post and have never met them.

I'm guilty of HORRENDOUS typing skills. I cheated in my keyboarding class in High school. My parents made me take it because they thought it would be helpful for typing papers in college. I wanted to have the free peroid in the cafeteria with my friends!

Re: How do you feel about weird piSSing matches that go on within threads?
i know exactly what thread you're "speaking" of and i will admit, i allowed myself to get sucked in a bit. in general, i hear about drama on LIF after the fact and just have to my head about it. in this instance, i saw what was happening firsthand and allowed myself to comment on it, because it irked me. i know some people feel you can't really "know" someone on LIF, because it is just a message board - so how can you like/dislike someone enough to even start drama. that being said, i DO think some people have too much time on their hands. in another aspect, some people on this site do have very strong personalities and because we are all different people, we may take a liking to some people more than others; be irked by others, so on and so forth. i am not on here enough to know any 2 posters backgrounds, or if there are any underlying issues, however i do think that if 2 people have an issue with each other, they should be adult enough to keep their comments to themselves and not ruin the integrity of the boards. i think for many of us, we come on LIF to get away from the day to day bs associated with real life; to destress, vent, find opinions and advice, give opinions and advice, request a hug when we're feeling down and when we're feeling happy and do the same for others. i do not come on this site to ridicule or call out other people. we all pass judgements; it's human nature. but i feel like - who are any of us to call someone out on a public message forum, when the fact is you don't even know the other person? if you don't "like" another poster, don't respond to their thread. i have felt personally attacked by a poster or 2... i don't exchange snide remarks in any post of theirs that i notice. perhaps i just steer clear of what they are saying unless i have something of true substance to contribute. i find unnecessary drama on LIF to be completely ridiculous... i notice people's spelling/grammar mistakes too... but i wouldn't make public note of it. last time i checked, i wasn't perfect myself. and i think some comments, like asking someone what profession they are, because of a possible spelling or grammatical error, is completely rude and uncalled for.

I agree, LIF & other message boards I visit are my relaxation time. I'd hate feel like every word I type is being critiqued & will be held against me. Can't we all just get along???

I don't know how much time people have or don't have, I just find it weird & a little creepy when I notice these kinds of incidents. I'd be completely bugged out if someone thought it was appropriate to bring my occupation into a completely unrelated thread that I didn't even start. I gotta think most people would feel the same way.

Re: How do you feel about weird piSSing matches that go on within threads?
I admit some grammar and spelling mistakes are like nails on a chalkboard to me but I would never publicly call someone out on it - this is not an English class and I am no where near a good writer. Plus I think it's pretty rude to do. If the spelling/typing is so horrendous I can't recognize the language they are using, I just close the thread and move on.
As for content, I think if you put it out there you should be prepared for it possibly coming back to you and even be judged for it. Right or wrong, it happens both online and offline.
ETA: I think the conversations that occur on the side are normal -- some threads generate a debate and side chat tends to happen in group "discussions". Whether or not they are friendly or unfriendly generally depends on the subject.
FWIW, I have no idea what thread sparked this one but pi$$ing matches, critiques, etc have occured on LIF/LIW for as along as I can remember.

I totally agree but I would never correct people online. Also, I chalk it up to being a high school special education English teacher. I spend most of my time correcting the spelling and grammar of the students that I teach.

Re: How do you feel about weird piSSing matches that go on within threads?
Ehhh, I think it's entertaining. These boards have gotten so lately, I'll take a heated up thread anytime.
It makes me when I see the too much time on their hands comments - one could think that those taking the time to comment on other's "too much time" comments also have too much time on their hands. And around it goes...
