How do you feel when people try to tell you how to parent your unborn child?

now that i am getting closer to my due date people just love to scare me more and more.

just this past weekend a mother of 3 was telling me dont listen to what people say.. blah,blah,blah.. then a few minutes later she turns right around saying that ..

ohhh i would never get my children their shots before 3 yrs old..

or.. i would never take my babies out early, before 5 or 6 months.. etc.

am i the only one that is dealing with this.. it really bothers me.
like i am already doing the wrong thing.

I think every new mom in history has dealt with this De. Let the advice roll off your back. Yes them to death and then do what you want and what you think is right. What works for them may not work for you and your kids. Listen to your mommy radar and you will be just fine

dont you know everyone is a better parent than we are??

I'm sooo sick of hearing everyone's "advice".

especially since I'm pretty laid back- most of my family is- and all these paranoid parents try and make me paranoid.

Sorry, i am not sending out emails asking ppl not to come and visit for a month. - my cousin's wife suggested this.


You are not the only one dealing with this. i've learned to smile and nod and I'm going to do what I want to anyway!

our lamaze teacher had the following advice for us on this topic, she said this:

1 if the person giving the advice doesn't have kids of their own - ignore them

2 if the kids of the person giving the advice are out of control and don't behave - ignore them too

3 everyone else just take with a grain of salt

I just try to take it all with a grain of salt and when the time comes, I'll go with what my heart tells me.

I just nod and smile. I'm soooo not confrontational so I just let them think I'm soaking it in, when in reality I'm singing the Golden Girls theme song in my head.

You are not the only one subject to the verbal diarrhea of people around them. I hear it all the time and it makes me I just want to say to them shut your damn hole!!! It is really annoying. I try not to let it bother me, and just ignore it. I am going to parent the way I want to parent. If they have their own ideas then they can have a baby and do what they want.

Diana.. you are so right , i am not really a paranoid person when it comes to that .

and honestly i always look at our parents and what they were doing. i think that has something to do with it.

i do plan on giving them their shots however the doctor does them

i do plan on taking the babies out early.. not extremely early.. but not staying home for months .

and dont even get me started on the BFing.

What you need to do (here's some advice for you ) is take everyone's opinion and just imagine that the internet is working backwards. Instead of you doing the Google, Google is spewing information your way.

Filter it like it could be some bs wikipedia entry that a couple of 14 year olds with a good vocabulary thought they could pass off as sound advice and not worth listening.

Everything you posted falls under the "smile and nod" category for me.

I got some advice this weekend about breast feeding from a girl who doesn't have children (and I already have one and my BFF has 4 and all my other closest girlfriends have at least 2)... I told her I couldn't go to a party in July because wouldn't leave my 2 or 3 week old child alone with my DH for the afternoon because I plan to BF (which is every 2-3 hours in the beginning!) and she said, be careful with that - your kid may never leave you alone.

But really, what does she know???

I just listen to what people say and know that I will ultimately choose to do what I want to do. Don't let them get to you....you never know, you may hear something you like! lol

I haven't really dealt with this too much yet but I am sure it is coming soon....I have had enough of it in regards to what to do and what not do to while pregnant...I am sure it will only continue when it comes to being a parent

Just try to ignore them if you can...people are always going to have something to say.

I just said "thank you, my husband and I already know how we are going to handle/address _______" And if they pushed it, I would jokingly say "Are you gonna push this baby out of your hoo ha for me? If not, then I think I'll be able to make the right decisions for my baby. Thanks again!"

Just wait. It only gets worse once you actually have the babies. Then everyone around you becomes an expert on how to raise a child. Even if they themselves do not have one.
