How do you find out if your company is closed due to weather?

How do you find out if your company has an unplanned closing, either due to weather, lack of power, etc.

We have a central phone number to call that has a recording telling us if we are open or closed. We also have a website with updates.

This way, if you aren't at your home for whatever reason, you can still find out about the status. Phone chains are nice, but it puts too much reliance on everyone having phone service, and being at their house.

We have a number to call too

Sometimes I just randomly call to make sure that there is work. it starts with the date that the message was recorded so I always know if they have changed it right away

Our company is never closed - we're 24/7/365. If one of our employees can't get to work we send someone to pick them up! No snow-days for our poor employees.

There's a number to call, though it's not very publicized.

Doesn't matter, we NEVER close and I really mean that! I've asked those who have been here 10+ years and they said this place has NEVER SHUT DOWN!!!

we are NEVER closed, ever. (i work for the county)

apparently we even stayed open during the blackout in 2003.

it's some bullsh*t about having to pay the cops overtime if we close i'm not really sure

Our office closes when the Nassau/Suffolk/Queens/NY/Kings Supreme Courts close. I've worked here for 4 years and we have yet to close due to weather.

WOW - I guess we are lucky. We even got 1.5 hours to leave early on Friday due to weather. I have been here for about three years and we have been able to leave early plenty of times and I think we got two full days off.

i work in a school - they post it on news12 and on the radio.

I can think of 3 occasions where the office formally closed - 9/12/01 & the day of the black out in 2003. While not scheduled, it was not expected that people would come into the city on those days.

And once for a death in the owner's family - that was a phone chain.

ETA...we don't close for weather.

We don't close for anything...well, not for weather anyway...and probably not for anything else either.

There's only a couple of us, and the office has never closed in the 15 months i've been here. I assume I'd get a call from my boss' daughter (my friend/co-worker).

There's only about 20 people in my office so we do a phone tree.

When we had the ice storms 2 weeks ago, the guy who lives closest to the office (about 2 miles away) had lost power so he assumed the office was also without power, he called a few people to say there was no power don't bother coming in - that made it around to almost everyone. Someone who hadn't been called got into the office (which had power) and around 8:30 started calling around to see where everyone was

We never close. Too many people who work here live within Subway distance. So if I don't come in because of weather, it's a vacation/sick day for me.

If we ever closed, the two partners would probably call, text and/or email us. There's only 14 people in the company.

We have a central phone number for weather related closures (snow, the day after the blackout).

After 9/11, we were closed for a week since I work downtown near Ground Zero. For that, our manager called each of us directly and let us know what was going on.

My company closed once in my 14 years being there. It was on the radio and TV at that time.

In the 13+ years I've been with my company, we have never closed due to weather or other things.

However, if the weather is REALLY bad (like Friday when there were 4-6 inches of snow on the ground here by 1pm), they have closed a early (3pm).

I will say though, that on 9/12/01, they had me call every employee to let them know that the office would be open. That was a little hard.

The first company I worked for out of college had a phone chain.

A Fortune 100 company I worked for told us to take our laptops home if we thought that it was going to snow and telecommute.

The company Kotka and I worked for used to close if Smithtown schools were closed. We kept trying to get the president to change it to Hauppauge schools since they closed as soon as a flake of snow fell. (Or vice versa, but I know it was those 2 schools.)

we have an ER number to call....but it's so outdated it still states the date as sometime in April 2007
