Where were you born?
I was born in Queens and I had to go downtown to Worth street and get a certified copy of my birth certificate. It cost me $5

Just go to the Town Hall of the town you were born in - I believe it's a $15 fee and they will give you a sealed certificate.

If there are any issues you or a representitive for you has to go to the city hall. I had to send a lawyer to Downtown Cleveland to get mine for me...my grandma did not want to go to the seedy section of town.  Even though its populated during the day.
