How do you get the town to chop down a DEAD tree?

We have two trees in our front yard and everytime it rains these huge dead (scary Chat Icon ) branches fall off. The tree is old & dying and it is kind of dangerous.

My DH called and they said you have to write a letter - any feedback on this?

is the tree on the first 8 ft of your property? Is it over powerlines? If its over the powerlines I would call LIPA...they are supposed to make sure the tress dojnt go into the powerlines

We had to write a letter too. It took several weeks for someone from the town to take down the tree, but they did do it.

If it's in your front yard, why would the town be responsible?

the first 8 ft of property is not really yours...it belongs to the town, so with that being said they are responsible for the trees there. My parents had the town take down the tree in front of thier house years ago. he calle dthe town and told them the tree was dying and they sent someone out to look at it, then a while later the tree was taken down.

I would call the town and see what the tree policy is

I had a dead tree in the front that was dropping branches. I wrote the town a letter and said that there was going to be a big problem if a branch fell on one of my kids. They came pretty quickly.

My mom just had this done in Nassau. The town used to charge $50 to do it, but it went up. Its now $350 for tree removal through the town. My mom got her letter in on the last day of the cheaper price, actually had to get the letter stamped with the date at the post office.
